TOPS Hospital has served the North Houston community for more than 30 years and recently underwent a major expansion and renovation project that included all new operating room suites as well as updated patient care and public areas.
JOB SUMMARY
Provides direct patient care by assisting patients with phlebotomy of safe laboratory draw. Maintains a clean and orderly patient care environment. Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations.
JOB DUTIES
Duties
- Participates as a team member in support of the inpatient/outpatient laboratory care.
- Organizes laboratory assistant activities efficiently and effectively
- Considers cost containment by using supplies economically
- Assists with supply and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability
- Addresses patient needs during their visit with TOPS.
- Provides comfort and reassurance to patients
- Maintains patient’s privacy and dignity
- Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician
- Documents patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures
- Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about the patient’s status
- Restocks and orders needed supplies on an as needed basis
- Gathers all needed equipment and supplies before patient arrives to the laboratory (tubes of draw, tourniquet, needles or butterflies, gaze or cotton balls and coband or bandage.)
- Demonstrates skill in the use of various equipment and makes sure it is in working order
- Each morning, ensures all quality control has been ran and within range.
- Restocks draw room supplies as needed with appropriate supplies
- Delivers STAT labs to Houston Northwest Medical Center as needed and when available
- Does blood tests applicable to position accurately following policies and procedures
- Offers assistance with general lab duties as needed.
- Assures that documentation is accurate, legible and complete
- Respects patient’s rights
- Performs other tasks and duties as assigned in an efficient, effective, and cost conscious manner, complying with all USPI’s policies, procedures and regulations.
Required Skills
REQUIRED
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- High School Education or GED certification
- Certified
- 6 months previous hospital experience
PREFERRED
- One year previous hospital experience
- MA or CNA certified
