    Job Description

    JOB DESCRIPTION: Assistant Quality Officer

    The Assistant Quality Officer works under the direction of the Quality Manager within the Quality Department. The main focus is on laboratory activities pertaining to obtaining and maintaining accreditation. This is a quality management system position consisting of assessing environmental tests, maintaining documentation/records, as well as statistical and process quality control monitoring. Attention to detail, ability to follow procedure, and desire for accuracy and precision is critical to the success of this position. The Assistant Quality Officer performs the following functions:

     

    JOB FUNCTIONS (DUTIES) AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assists the quality department with generating and implementing the quality processes and associated documentation required for obtaining and maintaining accreditation.

    • Assists with scheduling and monitoring of the proficiency test sample program.

    • Assists with organization, review, and upkeep of all laboratory SOPs.

    • Generates and reviews, in conjunction with the Quality Manager, Control Charts and other statistical quality control as needed.

    • Maintains records and archives of PT results, audit comments, all QA/QC data including but not limited to method detection limit (MDL) studies, accuracy and precision data, completed log books, and other quality systems.

    • Assists the Quality Manager and lab staff with test method assessment.

    • Monitors daily balance checks, temperature checks, and calibration and maintenance records.

    • Prepares logbooks for use in the laboratory and verifies proper usage.

    • Responsible for the entry of quality systems data into LIMS database.

    • Assists Quality Manager with maintaining Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA) systems.

    • Ensures Quality management System documents and record are complete, current, and stored appropriately according to ISO 17025:2017 and TNI 2016 Standard requirements.

    • Additional duties, as assigned by Laboratory Manager.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Ability to take specific direction and follow instructions accurately.

    • Must be able to develop positive working relationships with laboratory technical staff.

    • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Urgency and prioritization skills.

    • Must possess the ability to read, interpret and evaluate data sets including QA/QC data.

    • Must possess working knowledge of computer applications, including Word, Excel, and be able to operate LIMS.

    • Excellent punctuality and attendance is required. Complete documentation and attention to detail.

    • Must be knowledgeable in the quality system as defined by NELAP (TNI) or ISO 17025:2017 and have a general knowledge of the test methods for which quality management system operates.

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, geology, engineering, or related field. Must provide official education transcripts or diploma copy upon hire.

    • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, 2 years direct quality assurance experience an environmental analysis laboratory, analytical laboratory, environmental consultant, or related field may suffice.

    • Experience conducting analytical EPA methods in a laboratory environment or prior quality position a plus.

     

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Quality Manager or Laboratory Director.
