  • Responsibilities

    Objectives: Lead, manage, train, and develop nine (9) group fitness team members and the overall group fitness program according to the company’s Mission, Vision, Pillars of Success, Service Standards, and Business Philosophy. The Director of Group Fitness will aim to grow the group fitness program and team, assist in regional operational committees, and drive an aligned and consistent group fitness strategy for the company.

    Reports to: President/CEO and Chief Operating Officer/COO

    Criteria:

    At least 5 years of regional group fitness management experience and three years of Group Fitness teaching experience

    AFAA or ACE Primary Group Exercise Certification

    At least one MOSSA certification (or a willingness to obtain one within 90 days of hire)

    At least one AFF-approved specialty certification preferred - Ex: Zumba, Spinning, RYT200, etc.

    CPR and AED Certification

    Proficient oral, written, and technology communication (email/texting) skills

    Knowledge of business software and Microsoft Windows/Office

    As an AFF team member, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Get and keep members.

    Provide the highest quality customer service to all members by greeting them with a welcoming, friendly, energetic, and positive attitude at all times. Use members’ names as often as possible.

    Ensure exceptional customer service by working with GMs to hire, train, and maintain a proactive, efficient, professional, and friendly GFM team.

    Set an example of professional behavior and exceptional customer service for all team members.

    Embrace and follow the company Service Standards, the guidelines outlined in the AFF Training and Policy Manuals, and any applicable department-specific team handbooks.

    Respond to member concerns and/or comments in a timely and professional way.

    Be a team player by contributing to both club and organizational goals.

    Maintain open and honest communication with the company leadership team; partner together as fitness professionals. Respond within 24 hours to all time-sensitive email, text, and/or phone requests.

    Communicate effectively with all team members.

    Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise department goals on a regular basis in partnership with the company leadership team.

    Participate actively and as needed in club, department, and company meetings.

    As a Director of Group Fitness, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Create an annual Group Fitness Strategic Plan that identifies key focus initiatives for the year. Revise as needed.

    Develop an aligned and consistent Group Fitness strategy that supports the AFF brand by partnering with club teams to drive initiatives that include but are not limited to:

    New and current programming (regular and specialty formats)

    Certification requirements

    Hiring, onboarding, and compensation alignment

    Feedback, coaching/development, and review processes

    Trainings, workshops, and all continuing education opportunities

    Group Fitness schedule presentation (program alignment/consistency/format)

    Reporting systems, goals, and measures

    Department processes and standards

    Other initiatives as deemed reasonable within the AFF Group Fitness program

    Proactively work with company-wide peers to support each other for success as an organization including, but not limited to: Personal Training, Membership, Marketing, Community Events, Human Resources, etc.

    Facilitate the AFF relationship and act as the company liaison with our preferred fitness partners including, but not limited to: MOSSA, AFAA and ACE, Spinning, YogaFit and Yoga Alliance, Zumba, etc.

    Lead all new and existing program implementation, adaptation, and ongoing evaluation for pre-choreographed and freestyle formats including, but not limited to: MOSSA, Freestyle Group X, Cycling, Mind & Body, and Hot Yoga.

    Coordinate AFF-recommended and required education, workshops, trainings, events, meetings, upskilling, etc.

    Deliver in-house CEC/upskilling workshops as a CEC provider for GFMs and Instructors; present GFMs with a follow-up plan after each workshop to promote retention and application among all Instructors.

    Lead monthly Group Fitness meetings to align with the team on current initiatives, responsibilities, department goals, company information, professional development, education/training opportunities, and any additional information to be cascaded to the Instructors and GMs. Submit minutes of each meeting to the company leadership team.

    Communicate quarterly MOSSA initiatives, education, premiere information, and marketing campaigns to the team.

    Coach, educate, and support the GFMs in their roles.

    Provide ongoing support and feedback to the GFMs and contribute to the performance review process.

    Motivate the team to engage in a positive, enjoyable, non-competitive environment.

    Create, revise, and update (as needed) the AFF Group Fitness Team Handbook and the AFF program parameters. Provide company guidelines for safe and effective group fitness classes.

    Evaluate program metrics and provide monthly reports to the leadership team.

    Teach classes on an as-needed basis in accordance with MOSSA standards and AFF program parameters. Align with company and industry guidelines for safe and effective exercise and always deliver appropriate modifications.

    Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.
