  • Responsibilities

    Objective: To engage members through positive experiences and assist in maintaining the overall function and presentation of the club.

    Reports To: Assistant General Manager/General Manager

    Criteria: Previous customer service experience; Red Cross CPR/AED certification required within 60 days of hire. Prior fitness related experience preferred (teaching group fitness, personal training, etc.). Suggested related experiences: housekeeping, front desk/receptionist, barista and/or pool operations.

    As an AFF team member, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    To get and keep members happy.

    Perform duties according to the company’s mission, vision, pillars of success, service standards, and business philosophy, and continually provide optimal performance for net member growth, retention, and club profitability.

    Provide the highest quality of customer service to all members by greeting them with a welcoming, friendly, energetic, and positive attitude at all times. Use members’ names as often as possible.

    Embrace and follow the company Service Standards, the guidelines outlined in the AFF training and policy manuals, and any applicable department- specific team handbooks.

    Know the clubs emergency response protocol and be prepared to act. Exercise sound judgement with safety as a priority.

    Arrive to work 5 minutes early. Wear department-specific uniform.

    Actively participate in all department and club mandatory meetings.

    Be a team player by contributing to both club and organizational goals.

    Maintain open and honest communication with the team, partnering together as fitness professionals.

    Read and sign the communication log.

    As a Club Attendant, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Enforcing all club guidelines

    Ensuring the safety of all members by walking through the club throughout shift, checking for and eliminating potential hazards.

    Building rapport with members to gauge satisfaction level and identify areas of anticipated needs (i.e. water bottle needs refilling, a hand towel for excess sweat, a paper towel with cleaning solution sprayed, member needs to be spotted, etc.).

    Being the first point of contact for member questions about club guidelines, club activities, club promotions, feedback about the club and/or staff, etc. and being able to address questions/feedback in a professional and personable manner.

    Keeping members engaged through positive intentional interactions (high fiving, saying hi and bye, cheering a member on as they get closer to a milestone goal, etc.).

    Maintaining the cleanliness of all fitness equipment and their respective areas; including deep cleaning equipment, vacuuming, re-racking weights, putting away equipment that has been left out, etc.

    Performing routine checks on machine cables, upholstery, A/V cables, TV consoles, guide rods, etc.

    Reporting equipment that needs servicing in the maintenance log.

    Conducting AmFamU and/or orientations; includes completing required paperwork (fitness questionnaire, workout card, etc.) and issuing key tags [at participating clubs].

    Conducting tween orientations; includes completing required paperwork (workout card, waiver, etc.) and issuing tween wristband to tween member.

    Leading STRIVE workouts, Jr. STRIVE workouts and/or circuit style workouts in designated workout areas; offered at select clubs.

    Assisting with housekeeping related tasks; maintaining cleanliness of locker rooms and other club areas, replenishing frequently used items as needed, etc.

    Assisting with welcome desk related tasks; checking members in, following UPs system for membership inquiries/tours, answering phones, paging overhead, taking class reservations, etc.

    Assisting with café related tasks; opening/closing duties, adhering to health department regulations, restocking product following first in, first out method, using POS to ring up members for purchases, etc.

    Assisting with pool chemical checks, putting away pool equipment and identifying and addressing potential safety hazards in pool area; only at clubs with pools.

    Assisting with touring prospective members when membership advisor(s) and/or management is not available.

    Setting up equipment for regulated play/leagues, monitoring game play, ensuring safety of members during game play, and enforcing court usage schedule; only at clubs with courts.

    Assisting with daily club opening and/or closing duties; Chester and Williamsburg clubs only.

    Assisting with club opening and/or closing duties on days when club is reopening after/closing early for a planned holiday or other circumstance.

    Assisting with set up and/or break down during club events.

    Promoting club/company programs and interests.

    Performing other duties as reasonably assigned by management.
