    Job Description

    The Industrial Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and technicians to analyze and improve our manufacturing processes, identifying areas for efficiency and cost savings, and implementing best practices to enhance overall operational performance. This includes developing and optimizing processes and procedures in a heavy steel manufacturing environment with typical manufacturing operations such as material handling, arc welding, thermal cutting, surface grinding, machining, and coatings. The ideal team member will have a strong background in custom, engineered to order manufacturing processes, operational excellence methodologies and excellent leadership and communication skills.

    Essential Functions Performed by the Position

    • Analyze and evaluate existing production processes to identify areas for improvement in terms of efficiency, productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives, utilizing OpEx methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Kaizen.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and quality assurance, to identify process bottlenecks and develop solutions to optimize workflow and reduce waste.
    • Conduct studies to determine optimal work methods and standardize processes.
    • Design and implement production layouts and workstations to maximize efficiency and minimize material handling.
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure consistency and adherence to quality standards.
    • Identify and implement automation and technology solutions to streamline production processes and improve overall efficiency.
    • Research technology advancements and systems to develop cost effective improvements to operating methods and procedures.
    • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for production issues and non-conformances.
    • Monitor and analyze production data and metrics to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Complete feedback throughout organization (estimation, proposals, engineering, production) on performance and costs.
    • Review and approve cost estimates performed by Sales and/or Project Management for accuracy and feasibility.
    • Develop accurate tools for cost estimation, in collaboration with Estimation and Manufacturing.
    • Implements effective communication plans to keep alignment between direct and indirect team members on business and customer goals.
    • Drives methods using collaborative, cross-functional problem solving.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities ****

    • Strong background in Operation Excellence methodologies and programs
    • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Must possess strong training/facilitation skills.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills and the persistence to drive change.
    • Proficient in process analysis, optimization, and improvement techniques.
    • Ability to present ideas both on the plant floor and training room using Power Point.
    • Possess the ability to lead a team thru resistance to organizational changes.
    • Possess a dedicated and lead by example personality.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in an Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering related role leveraging skills in engineering, lean or operational excellence methods, project management and change management.
    • Previous experience managing engineers and technicians.

    Environment and Working Conditions

    • Work is conducted in both an office and an indoor fabrication/machine shop environment.
    • Exposure to loud noises (examples: metal can manufacture department, large earth-moving equipment)

    Travel Requirements (percent)

    • Up to 10%, travel is not required but may be necessary to visit vendors or benchmark other factories.
