    This corporate position is responsible for the purchase of materials, capital equipment and supplies needed to support company manufacturing locations and objectives.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Identify and qualify sources for materials, supplies and equipment.
    • Prepare and issue purchase orders, monitor and manage work in process, time schedules and cost issues to meet material and supply needs.
    • Prepare and submit specifications to vendors participating in the bidding for the supply of materials and equipment. Establish annual vendor contracts with pricing, quality levels, terms, etc.
    • Identify suppliers that are cost effective and efficient while minimizing the number of vendors for repetitive purchases of materials and supplies. Review with executive management prior to commitment to vendors.
    • Ensure compliance to all internal and external requirements affecting the launch of new products.
    • Comply with and enforce all customer and government regulations as they apply to the Company. This includes but is not limited to obtaining customer specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, and NAFTA requirements.
    • Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers. Coordinate the return of and charges for rejected material according to policies and procedures.
    • Maintain the integrity of all MIS entries produced by the Purchasing Dept. Ensure material price variances are current to support month end requirements.
    • Prepare cost benefit analysis and recommendation prior to vendor selections and equipment purchases taking into consideration quality, price and expected life.
    • Establish and maintain purchasing documents to comply with accounting guidelines and requirements from accounting department.
    • Coordinate with manufacturing and maintenance personnel to implement the proper procedures for monitoring inventory levels and preventing out of stock predicaments.
    • Maintain vendor delivery performance data. Be proactive in addressing performance issues.
    • Acquire a working knowledge of product and manufacturing processes.
    • Supervise Purchasing Department staff.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Project Management experience.
    • Technical skills, blue print reading.
    • Thorough knowledge of purchasing policies, processes and procedures.
    • Knowledge of inventory control policies and procedures.
    • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated history of ability to negotiate best vendor performance, quality standards, terms, pricing and delivery.
    • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment and working with ERP/MRP. Previous experience in implementing an ERP system is a plus.
    • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
    • Strong mathematical skills with and without a calculator.
    • Knowledge of legal terms and phrases used in purchase agreements.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
    • 5 years’ purchasing experience in an industrial environment. Preferably with experience and knowledge of rubber, urethane or specialty coatings.
    • Understanding of scheduling practices in a custom engineered job-shop production environment.
