    This is a 100% commission based position.

    Nature of the Position

    Sells advertising for American Society for Landscape Architects’ Landscape Architecture Magazine (LAM), exhibit space and Expo sponsorships at ASLA’s annual conference, corporate memberships, and other sponsorships and marketing opportunities.

    Responsibilities

    Establishes rapport and develops and maintains credibility with new and existing accounts; analyzes and responds to exhibitors, advertising clients, and corporate member needs.

    In collaboration with the Communications & Marketing team, contributes to promotional strategies and marketing materials for annual conference exhibit booth, LAM, and corporate memberships to increase sales.

    Inputs advertising sales orders into the system (currently SpaceMaster); inputs necessary exhibit and sponsorship order information into the system (currently A2Z); makes appropriate adjustments and changes as needed.

    Monitors competitive magazines and ad tracking services to keep abreast of competitive spending by clients and prospective clients.

    Works with the Director of Development & Strategic Partnerships to vet new sales opportunities, new offerings and new industry partner segments.

    Recommends and/or evaluates pricing of any new sales opportunities to be offered based on analysis of the market.

    Regularly contacts current and potential clients via phone, email, or in-person visits to solicit sales and to meet sales goals.

    Maintains accurate database (HubSpot) of clients and prospects.

    Keeps current on ASLA’s strategic objectives and activities to identify potential exhibitors and advertisers; maintains a prospect list and makes periodic contact with prospects.

    Regularly reviews ASLA’s website and annual conference exhibitor web pages to recommend improvements that could potentially improve sales and marketing.

    Attends competitive trade shows to find new prospects and sell ASLA opportunities.

    Performs onsite booth sales.

    Contributes to policy and priority setting for advertising and exhibit sales and corporate membership.

    In collaboration with the Director and other team members, responsible for advertising and exhibit sales operating plans and budgets, and for setting short- and long-term goals aligned with ASLA’s strategic plan.

    Works in partnership with Director, Development & Strategic Partnerships and other ASLA staff and volunteers to advance the Society’s mission, strategic objectives, and priority issues.

    Assists the Finance team with the collection of payment for advertising, sponsorship, and exhibit sales, as needed.

    Upholds the ASLA values and culture. Adheres to the ASLA policy on Standards and Conduct and all other administrative and management policies.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    BA degree in Marketing, Sales, or related field; or equivalent training and experience.

    Minimum five years’ experience in media/publishing industry advertising sales, trade show sales and marketing.

    Knowledge of landscape architecture and the design, planning, and construction industry a plus.

    Must develop and maintain a good network and knowledge of landscape architects and specialized practice areas

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to produce clear, well-written communications.

    Excellent organizational skills, good judgment, and attention to detail.

    Ability to balance heavy workload with short- and long-term project deadlines, address changing priorities, and work well under pressure.

    Knowledge of Microsoft Office and HubSpot, Spacemaster and A2Z database computer applications.

    This is a 100% commission based position.
