American Youth Academy is an Islamic-based private school located in Tampa, Florida, one of the fastest-growing communities in the entire country. AYA was established in 1992 and currently serves 750 students grades pre-K through 12, increasing every year. One of AYA's top priorities is to create an environment and structure that allows all students to engage in experiences that prepare them for the future. Candidate Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university/Master’s Degree Preferred
Knowledge of Nasheed - Islamic Naats
3 years of successful field experience
Solid working knowledge of the concepts, activities, and techniques related to teaching performing art at the required level
Strong foundation in classroom management
Job Goal
A teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student achievement and growth are primarily dependent on the work and efforts of the teacher. The position is demanding, varied and complex. The teacher must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well-trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies. To be successful as an art teacher, you should be able to encourage creativity and self-expression among students.
Performing Art Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
The Art Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art. The Art Teacher has decision-making responsibilities within the essential job functions, in keeping with school policies.
Must be innovative.
Must have knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities in the area of music, art, and drama.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to design, plan and implement a new fine arts program for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Must be able to work collaboratively with grade-level teachers.
Evaluate student achievement and adjust instruction accordingly.
Teach a variety of vastly different skills in the area of music, art, and drama.
Organize and maintain an inventory of equipment, music curriculum, and supplies and materials.
Plan classes and appropriate assignments according to course requirements.
Plans for instruction with logically sequenced objectives, based on knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history.
Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
Foster an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, social, and emotional development of students.
Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize the time required for distribution and collection
Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding.
Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community.
