    American Youth Academy is an Islamic-based private school located in Tampa, Florida, one of the fastest-growing communities in the entire country. AYA was established in 1992 and currently serves about 1000 students grades pre-K through 12, increasing every year.     Qualifications:

    A minimum of a bachelor's degree.

    Preferably a degree in the subject they will teach or direct subject-area teaching experience.

    Possess any required state teaching credential or certifications and meet any other credentialing requirements.

    Demonstrated expertise in the subject, they will teach, as evidenced by

    Ability to pass a criminal background investigation.

    Demonstrated ability and experience to engage the interest of school-age children.

    Teaching experience in a public or private school.

    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be required

    Job Goal

    Under the direction of the Head of School in carrying out the school's academic program, the teacher is responsible for providing an instructional program and the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for the learning and personal growth of each student. The teacher is passionate about developing each student's awareness of the role of science in economic and social progress. And to motivate each student to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles and skills in scientific methods of problem-solving; to discover and develop unique talents of students in the scientific field. The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing lessons by the standards set forth by American Youth. To establish a positive correlation between the quality of teaching and learning by making instructional decisions based upon student data in a safe, productive, and Islamic learning environment.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    Maintain and enrich their expertise in the subject area they will teach, including Biology, Chemistry, and/Physics.

    Develop lesson plans that ensure state and school learning standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade learning standards set forth by the school programs.

    Coordinate lesson plans with other teachers to maximize possibilities for teaching similar topics in the same general time frame, thus reinforcing student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis.

    Provide direct and indirect instruction.

    Long and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students.

    Prepare students adequately for all required assessments.

    Evaluate student's progress

    Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative learning environment.

    Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management

    Basic understanding of children's emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs.

    Accept and incorporate feedback and coaching from administrative staff.

    Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.

    Perform other duties as assigned and deemed appropriate by the Head of School.

    Physical Demand:

    Teachers spend most of the day standing and sitting in the classroom. While standing, the teacher will frequently hold light objects they are working on and demonstrating, etc. These can be held from waist level to slightly above the teacher's head. Teachers must be able to walk through the classroom and maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Dealing with students can entail kneeling or squatting, stooping, and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to the frequent basis on a given day. The chalkboard or whiteboard is occasionally too frequently used, requiring grasping the chalk or marker or eraser, reaching, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity, and may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at class.

    The teacher often moves students' desks and chairs to change the classroom layout to influence teaching situations. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to the classroom up to 200 feet away.

    Environmental Demands:

    This position works in various settings, including classrooms and outdoors, and may experience heat or cold extremes and fumes, odors, dust, and the noise level is moderate to loud.
