    Heavy Duty Diesel Technician A

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Performs preventive maintenance, problem diagnostics, and repairs on Company vehicles and equipment.

    MAJOR DUTIES:

    Troubleshoots vehicle and equipment operations problems, diagnoses and subsequently makes repairs

    Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment according to standard schedules.

    Adjusts, repairs or replaces parts and equipment.

    Attends safety meetings and classes.

    Maintains tools and equipment.

    Maintains a safe and tidy shop.

    Performs the duties of supervisor in his or her absence.

    Responds to after hour calls as needed.

    Welds and fabricates parts as needed.

    Performs related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

    Knowledge of vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance principles.

    Knowledge of vehicle and equipment diagnostics and repair principles.

    Skills in the use of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

    Skill in oral and written communication.

    Skill in welding

    Skill in supervising the work of personnel

    Skill in troubleshooting and identifying problems and in devising related solutions,

    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

    Supervision of this position is the responsibility of the Maintenance Manage or his designated qualified representative.

    GUIDELINES:

    Guidelines include Corporate policies and procedures as well as any Federal, DOT, or OSHA mandated directives.

    COMPLEXITY:

    The work consists of related vehicle and equipment maintenance duties. The variety of equipment to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the position.

    The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of company vehicles and equipment.

    Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of company operations.

    CONTACTS:

    Contacts are typically with other employees and supervisors.

    Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to assist in resolving problems,

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT:

    The work is typically performed while intermittently standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools and equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

    Work is typically performed in a vehicle repair shop. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. Work may be performed outdoors occasionally in cold, hot, or inclement weather. Work requires the use of personal protective devices and equipment such as masks, goggles, and gloves.

    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

    This position has functional supervisory responsibilities working with Technician C and Technician B staff as instructed by the Maintenance Manager.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.

    Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand to work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems,

    Basic knowledge of operation of laptop and electronic devices pursuant to on board vehicle diagnostics and drive ability diagnostics.

    Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems usually associated with 3 to 5 years of experience or service.
