    Job Description

    Ancestry seeks a highly motivated, internet-savvy Software Engineer intern to join team Apollo. The Apollo team collects phenotypical data to help empower user journeys of self-discovery through DNA analysis. As a Software Engineer on the Apollo team you will:

    • Learn full-stack software development using some of the following technologies:
      • HTML and CSS
      • JavaScript
      • React / Redux
      • Node.js
      • MySQL
    • Create, test and deploy software features supporting the Genetic Discoveries Engine.
    • Work with designers, developers and product managers to help influence and guide the direction of new software features.
    • Learn how to package and deploy software to run on AWS.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    • Write and deploy customer-facing user interfaces and back-end systems
    • Help write RESTful APIs using Node.js
    • Package software solutions for deployment on AWS with Docker
    • Work with designers, developers and product managers to develop new software features​​​​​
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    WHO YOU ARE:

    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. level degree
    • Must be currently enrolled in a university and graduating after Summer 2019
    • Practical working knowledge of JavaScript
    • Basic competency in web development using HTML and CSS
    • Some familiarity with databases and SQL
    • Any exposure to Node.js is a plus
    • Good communication skills
