    Job Description

    Ancestry seeks a highly motivated, internet-savvy software engineering intern to join the Genomic Algorithms team at our San Francisco office. The Algorithms team strives to constantly improve and scale algorithms running to generate insights on genomic data. As an intern on this team, you will be helping create and improve algorithms, dashboards and processes that fall under the team’s charter.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    • Work on optimizing software that runs very specific algorithms on a DNA sample.
    • Contribute minor improvements to DNA-processing applications.
    • Improve testability for the team by improving automation testing of algorithms.
    • The last two weeks of your internship will be spent evaluating the applications you have worked on in terms of its usefulness to teams at Ancestry and how it can be further improved going forward.

    WHO YOU ARE:

    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. level degree.
    • Must be currently enrolled in a university and graduating after summer 2019.
    • Must have experience working with Python and Java.
    • Have familiarity with REST web services and service-oriented architecture.
    • Having familiarity with large data sets and the algorithms/tools used to process them is a plus.
    • Having working knowledge on AWS is a plus.
    • Having experience with Bioinformatics, genomics, arrays, DNA processing is a plus.
