    Job Description

    Ancestry seeks a highly motivated, internet-savvy Data Engineer Intern to join our Data Lake team. The Data Lake team is tasked with creating a centralized Data Platform that all organizations at Ancestry are using to make critical business decisions. As a Data Engineer on the Data Lake team you will work to build pipelines and infrastructure to support the pipelines that serve data from sources into the Data Lake.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    • AWS infrastructure deployments
    • Pipeline Engineering using Kafka, Spark, and other AWS technologies.
    • Build data models that support thousands of different types of queries
    • Work with a development team as if you are a full-time employee with the user stories being assigned to you each sprint
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    WHO YOU ARE:

    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. level degree
    • Must be currently enrolled in a university and graduating after Summer 2019
    • Have competency in Java, Python, or Scala
    • SQL proficiency
    • Interested in BIG data processes and pipelines
    • Eager to learn open source technologies and be happy with the frustrations that using them can cause 
    • Experience with EMR, Redshift, Kafka, or other data offerings in AWS is a plus
