    Job Description

    Ancestry seeks a highly motivated, internet-savvy User Experience Design intern to join our User Experience and Data Visualizations team. The UX and Data Visualizations team currently supports a variety of UX design initiatives working across multiple domains within Ancestry organization. It includes the Advanced Research group, Web UI Components and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) spaces. As an intern on this team, you will be a functioning member by contributing to solving a wide variety of design challenges, as well as having a distinct piece of UX that you would own yourself.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    As part of the Data Visualization team you will work on visually-interesting, cutting-edge, relatively self-contained projects which will have few dependencies on others, making it an ideal venture to be completed within the span of a summer. You’ll have an opportunity to choose from a variety of projects including UX/UI design work for the Advanced Research group enabling users to visualize their DNA data and corresponding physical traits in novel ways, as well as a number of projects for Search Engine Optimization space. An SEO experience would be an UX-heavy challenge that would address an interesting SEO use-case and has potential to bring in more users of Ancestry products.

    WHO YOU ARE:

    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. level degree
    • Must be currently enrolled in a university and graduating after Summer 2019
    • Have basic understanding and some experience with UX design process such as idea generation, wireframing, and user-testing.
    • Have experience with UX design tool kit (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator, InVision, etc.)
    • Have a design portfolio that demonstrates UX design principles for web and/or mobile platforms. 
    • Nice to have: visual design, iconography and graphic illustration skills and/or some knowledge of Javascript or other asynchronous coding language. Knowledge of the d3.js library is a plus!
