Job Description

Ancestry seeks a highly motivated, internet-savvy Mobile Software Engineer intern to join our Helix team. The Helix team creates a wide variety of software features for Ancestry users on our native DNA mobile apps iOS ad Android platforms. As a Mobile Software Engineer on the Helix team you will fully participate in feature development and learn how to write iOS or Android code to bring those features to life. The team ships new versions of the apps every twice monthly, so you’ll have a great opportunity to learn about the product lifecycle and see your features released to hundreds of thousands of users on a regular basis.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Participate in product feature design and user story creation
• Learn to correctly develop and size user stories
• Write software to story specifications and acceptance criteria
• Test and monitor software quality and performance
• Ship working software on a regular basis

Qualifications

WHO YOU ARE:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. level degree
• Must be currently enrolled in a university and graduating after Summer 2019
• Some demonstrated ability to write native mobile software using iOS or Android
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
• Familiarity with version control systems (git)
• Demonstrated competency in Android studio or Xcode
• Understanding of REST APIs
• Familiarity with JSON
• UI Skills
