Job Description

Currently we have an opening at our Shakopee, MN plant location for individuals who have a strong interest in pursuing an industrial maintenance career in a manufacturing environment. The position requires the ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic problems, ability to read and understand schematics and ladder logics. A PLC background is a plus.

The Maintenance Apprentice is a full-time union position with a starting wage of $26.13 per hour starting.

The apprenticeship is a four-year program (8,000 hours) and is governed by federally approved national standards. Those who are hired will be required to complete a minimum of 144 hours of approved classroom training each twelve months. Class room training is through local technical schools. These classes are taken during non-working hours.  All courses, text books and fees will be paid at 100% by Anchor Glass Container.

Wage increases are given every 1000 hours, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, satisfactory performance and apprenticeship program.

Upon successful completion of the 8,000 hour apprenticeship program all apprentices will then be  reclassified as an industrial journeyman maintenance mechanic with wages increased to $32.25 per hour.

Individuals will be trained Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:00 pm and then assigned to a crew to work rotating shifts. Rotating shift work involves working 7 consecutive days of an 8am-4pm shift followed by 3 days off, then working 7 consecutive days of a Midnight-8:00 am shift followed by 2 days off and then working 7 consecutive days of a 4:00 pm-Midnight shift followed by two days off and then starting back on the 8-4 shift. This amounts to working 21 days, with 7 days off, in a 28-day cycle.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Must be 18 years of age or older
2. High School diploma or equivalent
3. Ability to successfully pass math and mechanical aptitude tests prior to interview process
4. Drug screen, background check and pre-employment physical
5. Strong work ethic supported by past work history

Desired Qualifications

1. Three years maintenance experience in a manufacturing/production environment
2. Three years experience in automotive repair also desirable and may substitute
3. Two year technical degree or relevant experience preferred
4. Work history supporting increased role responsibility
