    SUMMARY Create, plan and implement activities in the early care and education of young children which maintain the health and welling being of children and promote their social, physical, intellectual and spiritual growth and development.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

    Health and Safety

    · Is familiar with and adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures

    · Maintain sanitation of the classroom, storage areas, and bathroom

    · Supervises and ensures the safety and well‑being of the children at all times

    · Is alert to each child's individual health needs;

    · Models and promotes safe and healthy choices in all settings;

    · Instructs and supports children in practices of personal cleanliness and self care;

    · Help children develop habits of caring for own clothing; picking up and putting away toys & books.

    · Follows the state and center policies and/or regulations regarding discipline

    · Reports to Director any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect –

    Curriculum

    · Is alert to the strength and needs of the children as individuals and as a group

    · Works with co-workers to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities which support children’s individual social/emotional, language, cognitive, self help, fine motor, and large motor skill growth and development

    · Design and implement daily written schedules and planned activities which provide a balance of activities as stated by KS licensing regulations.

    · Engages children in a positive manner during “free play”, small group, “circle time” and large motor activity

    · Implement family style meals and snacks which provide positive social and learning experiences

    · Create and model a soothing and calming environment to enhance quiet time/nap time

    · Plans individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills

    Professionalism

    · Respects the confidentiality of children, families, and staff members

    · Demonstrates respectful interactions with children, families, and staff members

    · Exhibits a willingness and ability to work with the special needs of children.

    · Communicates daily with families; greet family members and children upon arrival/departure

    · Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to all center policies and procedures

    · Completes accident, injury and incident reports in a professional and timely manner

    · Completes daily reports and journals to record children’s growth and development

    · Participates in regular staff meetings, unit meetings, and classroom meetings

    · Reports, in writing, concerns to the Director as appropriate;

    · Actively participates in evaluation process with director:

    · Completes specific duties as negotiated with co-workers.

    Other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES include assisting the Director in the supervision of the Assistant Teacher, Teacher Assistant, volunteers, and parents in their designated classroom.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     Education and/or Experience

    · Must be at least 21 years of age;

    · Have one of the following

    _ CDA credential

    _ Associates degree in Early Childhood/Child Development or equivalent

    _ Bachelors degree in Early Childhood/Child Development.

    · Must have at least two years experience working in early childhood care and education.

    Health and Safety Requirements

    · Provide verification of a negative TB test within the last year

    · Provide health assessment within the last 6 months

    · Evidence negative results of drug testing

    · Pass all background checks ‑ including the KBI

    · Provide three letters of reference

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    • Have or within 30 days of hire current first aid certificate

    • Have or within 30 days of hire Child Abuse and Neglect Training

    • Have or within 30 days of hire Infection Control/Communicable Disease Training

    · Must have valid driver's license or means of transportation to and from the center

    · Actively participate in a minimum of 20 hours of in‑service training annually (September- May)

    Communication Skills:

    • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.

    • Ability to compose letters, memos, and instructional or informational materials

    • Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to employees and family members of the Family Services.

    Mathematical Skills

    • Ability to add and subtract 10 digit numbers

    • Ability to multiply and divide 10 digit numbers

    • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance

    Reasoning Ability

    • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral

    instructions.

    • Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables in standardized or unfamiliar situations.
