    Job Title: Animal Care Staff (Full-Time) Organization: Pensacola Humane Society Location: Pensacola, FL

    Position Overview: The Pensacola Humane Society is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Animal Care Staff member to join our team full-time. This role is essential to maintaining the health, cleanliness, and overall well-being of the animals in our care. The ideal candidate is reliable, compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced shelter environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Provide daily care for shelter animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring overall health

    Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, isolation areas, and all animal spaces to maintain a safe and healthy environment

    Work routinely in isolation areas and follow all required biosecurity and sanitation protocols

    Assist with animal intakes, including handling, initial assessments, and processing

    Support wellness exams and assist veterinary staff as needed

    Observe animals closely for signs of illness or behavioral changes and report concerns promptly

    Conduct daily playgroups for dogs and monitor behavior and safety

    Walk dogs regularly to provide exercise and enrichment

    Bathe animals as needed

    Create and provide enrichment activities, including making lick mats and other forms of stimulation

    Socialize cats and dogs, including those that have not been properly socialized

    Work closely with ill or vulnerable populations, including kittens and puppies requiring additional care

    Assist with animal handling, movement, and restraint as needed

    Maintain laundry, dishes, and overall facility cleanliness

    Follow all safety protocols and humane handling guidelines

    Assist other departments as needed in support of daily shelter operations

    Qualifications:

    Previous experience working with animals preferred, but not required

    Strong attention to detail is a must

    Ability to handle animals of various sizes, temperaments, and medical needs

    Comfortable working in all kennel areas, including isolation

    Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and stay on task

    Ability to perform physically demanding tasks (lifting, bending, standing for long periods)

    Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts

    What to Expect – This Is Not an Easy Job: Working in an animal shelter is incredibly rewarding, but it is also physically and emotionally demanding. Staff should be prepared for:

    Cleaning up urine, feces, vomit, and other bodily fluids daily

    Exposure to sick, injured, or contagious animals (including those in isolation)

    Working in loud, fast-paced, and sometimes stressful environments

    Handling animals that may be fearful, undersocialized, or reactive

    Emotionally difficult situations involving neglect, illness, or end-of-life care

    Long hours on your feet performing physically demanding work

    This role requires resilience, compassion, and a genuine commitment to animal welfare.
