Do you love working with cats and kittens—and want to put that passion toward a truly meaningful cause?

Alaqua Animal Refuge, a nationally recognized nonprofit rescue and sanctuary on 100 acres in Freeport, Florida, is seeking a dedicated Animal Care Technician to join our feline team. We care for cats and kittens of all ages and personalities—many rescued from abandonment, neglect, or abuse, and all deserving of a second chance.

This role is hands-on, active, and deeply rewarding for someone who wants to make a real difference in the lives of cats in need.

    What You’ll Do

    • Feed, water, and monitor cats and kittens daily

    • Clean and sanitize cat cabins and common areas to maintain a safe, healthy environment

    • Assist with health care routines, medications, and veterinary appointments

    • Observe behavior, track changes, and report any health or behavioral concerns

    • Provide enrichment, socialization, and playtime to support both shy and outgoing cats

    • Support intake and rehabilitation for newly rescued cats and kittens

    • Give patience, structure, and compassion to cats who may be experiencing a safe home for the first time

    What We’re Looking For

    • Prior hands-on experience with cats in a shelter, kennel, veterinary, or rescue environment (required)

    • Ability to safely handle cats and kittens with a range of temperaments

    • Hardworking, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

    • Physically able to handle cleaning, lifting up to 40 lbs, and active daily work

    • Team player with strong communication skills and deep compassion for animals

    Why Join the Alaqua Team?

    • Work directly with rescued cats and kittens in a healing sanctuary setting

    • Be part of a passionate team dedicated to second chances and lifelong care

    • Do meaningful, active work that makes a daily impact

    • Enjoy a beautiful 100-acre sanctuary filled with hope and heart

    • Flexible schedules | Full and part-time roles | Ongoing training and growth opportunities

If you have a heart for cats and a strong work ethic, we’d love to welcome you to the Alaqua team.
