    Animal Hospital of Palo Alto is looking for a part-time Kennel Attendant to join our team!

    Animal Hospital of Palo Alto (AHOPA) is a 2 doctor GP clinic located in beautiful Palo Alto, CA, an idyllic town in the heart of Silicon Valley. AHOPA stays on top of the latest advances in veterinary technology and above all, remembers that all animals and pets need to be treated with loving care in every check-up, procedure, or surgery. We are seeking a part-time Kennel Attendant who shares our energy, drive, ambition, and who will meaningfully contribute to our growth and success.

    Position Overview: As a Kennel Attendant, you will play an important role in the day-to-day operations with Animal Hospital of Palo Alto. By adding value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and extraordinary service, the Kennel Attendant will oversee animal behavior and provide husbandry care to the patients of the Veterinary Hospital. We are looking for a friendly, team-oriented person, with an exceptional eye for detail!

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Observe and report daily animal behavior, appearance, and activity for general physical condition and signs of illness or discomfort to the attending Veterinarian or Technician
    • Handle and restrain animals to effectively complete treatment tasks
    • Walk hospitalized and boarded dogs throughout the day to provide exercise and time for urine and bowel elimination
    • Provide timely meals to all hospitalized and boarding patients while ensuring correct dietary needs to each patient
    • Administer medications, provide post operative care, prepare samples for laboratory examination, collect specimens, clean instruments, and fill prescriptions as authorized by the Veterinarians or Technicians
    • Ensure that cages and animals are properly identified and that personal property (toys, blankets, leashes) are stored and labeled in respectable areas
    • Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages, and runs as often as is necessary to ensure cleanliness and sanitation
    • Perform general cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizations in other areas of the hospital to control the spread of the diseases
    • Complete upkeep tasks like cleaning food and water bowls, and maintaining laundry
    • Demonstrate the ability to explain and educate clients on our services, procedures, and products

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • 1 year of experience performing above duties
    • High School Diploma/GED
    • Confidence with animal behavior and proper animal restraint methods
    • Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency
    • Take initiative on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments
    • Verbal and written communication skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Organizational skills
    • Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion
    • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors

    Available Schedule: Part-time position, shifts will be 9am-6pm up to 3 times a week

    • We are open: M-F from 8am-6pm
    • Saturday’s from 8am-6pm
    • Closed Sunday
