Overview: We’re looking for a part-time Intake Counselor to join our open-admission, for-all animal shelter. Being a “for-all” shelter means that SPCA Tampa Bay will not limit admission or refuse to take in a pet. As part of the operations team, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference within the community. Intake Counselors provide compassionate support to individuals surrendering their pets and offer guidance on relinquishment options.

    Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service Excellence: Serve as a compassionate and knowledgeable point of contact for individuals surrendering their pets. Provide them with respectful, empathetic, and professional assistance throughout the intake process.

Detailed Information Collection: Gather comprehensive behavioral and medical histories from pet owners relinquishing their animals. Ensure accurate and thorough documentation to support our shelter’s ability to provide appropriate care and support.

Guidance and Counseling: Offer thoughtful and supportive advice to pet owners who are contemplating the difficult decision to relinquish their pets or seek humane euthanasia services. Provide information on alternative resources and potential solutions to help them make informed decisions.

Collaborative Work: Partner closely with our medical and animal welfare departments to ensure a smooth intake process. Communicate effectively with these teams to address the specific needs of each animal and facilitate their transition into our shelter.

    Qualifications:

Core Values Alignment: Demonstrate a strong commitment to our core values of Customer Service, Teamwork, Compassion, and Community. Your approach to every interaction should reflect these principles.

Eagerness to Learn: Show a genuine desire to grow and develop within the animal welfare field. Stay informed about best practices and advancements in animal care and shelter operations.

Animal Handling Experience: Previous experience with animal handling is a plus and will help you excel in this role. Your comfort and skill in interacting with animals will enhance the intake process and support our mission.
