  • Responsibilities

    Job Summary:

    Specialists will be required to act as Project Leads as assigned by management. In addition, Specialists will be charged with overseeing and facilitating training in their specialty for Technicians, and others as assigned.

    Essential Duties

    · Plans and executes the patterning, draping and production of costume characters, costumes and 'skins' for animatronics and puppets and other soft good elements as assigned.

    · Maintain a running list of needed supplies, materials and notions for purchasing.

    · Performs mildly complex to complex design and construction tasks within the costume shop

    · Performs mildly complex to complex draping and patterning (digital and drafted)

    · Performs mildly complex to complex stitching techniques

    · Manage project deadlines and effectively communicate those deadlines to costume shop staff and management.

    · Prioritize and evaluate work flow for maximum efficiency and consistent work flow.

    · Maintain Animax standards and Quality Control throughout the costume shop.

    · Oversees the documentation of techniques and directions needed for projects.

    · Maintains a safe, healthy and clean work /shop environment.

    · Seek out and continue education in specialty as appropriate.

    · Train costume shop personnel in dye room procedures and safety

    · Ability to work independently and manage your own calendar/project load

    · Performs other duties as assigned.

    · Good organizational skills.

    Knowledge, Skills and Ability

    · Ability to stand for long periods of time.

    · Ability to lift and carry heavy fabrics.

    · Good interpersonal and communication skills

    · Excellent organizational skills.

    · Working knowledge of safety standards and the ability to implement them.

    · Working knowledge of costume materials including, but not limited to: fabrics, notions, crafts supplies.

    · Working knowledge of machinery used in the costume industry including, but not limited to: Industrial and domestic single and multi-needle sewing machines, steam irons and cutting tools.

    · High proficiency in all draping and pattern drafting techniques.

    · Knowledge of costume crafts and dye-work preferred.

    · Ability to communicate effectively in a stressful work environment

    · General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.

    Physical Demands:

    · Moderate lifting or carrying 26 – 50 lbs.

    · Ability to work on ladders and at heights on a scissor or boom lift [training provided]

    · Intermittently sitting, standing, and stooping.

    · Requires repeated reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction. Using equipment requiring high dexterity. Requires good near or distant vision. Requires distinguishing colors and/or depth perception to judge distances.

    Work Environment:

    · High noise environment. High dust, dirt, grease environment. Requires safety training and/or protective devices.

    · Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles. Regular exposure to chemicals, solvents.
