The Soft Casting Technician will be responsible for casting silicone, urethane, and latex skins and parts. As well as the seaming, processing and assembling of the elements. This role is a key member of the Sculptural Design team, who sculpts and produces the artistic elements of our entertainment robotics and animatronic figures.
The ideal candidate for this role has hands-on experience with casting silicone, urethane, and latex elements. They must also have experience seaming and processing these various materials. A keen attention to detail and enjoys working on a team to accomplish big goals. At times, this individual may be required to assist with other areas of the Sculptural Design department, including assisting with sculpting, mold making, sanding, painting, and various other tasks that may be needed. This role is perfect for practical effects artists, special effects makeup artists, prop makers, sculptors, makers, etc.

Essential Job Responsibilities
Casting silicone, urethane, and latex skins and parts.
Processing these various materials, including seaming, and assembling parts for final product.
Works with a variety of materials, including but not limited to, epoxy resins, polyester, urethane, and silicone
Operates various power and hand tools, such as bandsaws, grinders, sanders, dremels, table saws, cutting instruments, etc.
Follows directions and guidance from project lead or manager
Understands and follows precautions concerning interactions between different materials
Maintains fabrication integrity by consistently following quality assurance guidelines
Follows all safety precautions and policies
All other duties assigned by manager.
Education and Experience
Post-secondary degree or training in related discipline, preferred but not required
3+ years of hands-on experience with silicone and urethane casting and processing

Soft Casting Skills - requires excellent dexterity and ability to manipulate materials with precision
Visual Arts and Design - knowledge of the theory and techniques required to produce visual art

Preferred Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of silicone, urethane, and latex casting techniques. As well as the seaming and processing of these materials.
Knowledge of other fabrication techniques, mold making, painting, sculpture, etc.
Physical Requirements/Environment
Requires hand dexterity to grasp, use, and manipulate precision hand tools, including cutting instruments, sculpting tools, etc.
Ability to periodically lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Ability to climb ladders, steps, work from heights, and work in confined spaces
Work environment is a warehouse/shop and involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following safety precautions.
Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as fumes, odors, and/or loud noises.
