Animax Designs creates extraordinary three-dimensional characters for the themed entertainment, location-based entertainment, commercial, film, and television industries. We are currently seeking Assembly Technicians to help us create awesome art.
The Assembly Technician Contractor is a key member of our Mechanical Production Assembly team, who are responsible for the assembly of the mechanical structures within our animatronic figures. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has a passion for making things and enjoys working with a team to accomplish big goals. We’re looking for mechanics, hackers, practical effects artists, and any other type of maker who has hands-on experience.
At times, this individual may be required to move structures, help breakdown finished projects, or assist with the installation of our figures at sites across the world.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Assemble highly complex mechanical robotic structures,
Build and assemble small and large parts by riveting, torqueing, rigging, tapping, drilling, and performing other general production and maintenance tasks
Collaborate with other departments to help integrate the mechanical components with the animatronics’ cosmetic “figure finish” (skins, foam, furs, costumes)
Accurately provide estimates about workload and testing
Understand, review, and update drawings for complex machined components and weldments
Support milestone-based internal and external design review meetings with clients
Follow Animax Design’s best practices for design and assembly
Read, interpret, and implement client’s requirements for the design and build of figures
Work alongside mechanical engineers and the electrical control team
Assist with the installation of figures at various sites, including theme parks, exhibitions, and more
Some domestic and international travel may be required. Some travel may be for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
1-2+ years of hands-on experience working with mechanics, rigging, fiberglass, silicone, metalworking, electronics, HMI systems, or other manufacturing or fabrication
2 or 4-year degree in a related field preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to operate large industrial moving equipment (forklifts, cherry picker, pallet jacks, gantries) are a plus.
Knowledge of PLC based servo control systems architecture and programming is a plus
Knowledge of 3D software such as Solidworks is a plus
Physical Requirements/Environment:
Ability to frequently lift objects weighing at least 30 pounds, stand for long periods of time, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch, and use hands and arms to reach for, grasp and manipulate objects.
Ability to climb ladders, steps, and work from heights.
Work environment is a warehouse/shop and involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following safety precautions.
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as fumes, odors, and/or loud noises.
