    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of structures, such as bridges, ports, dams, and underground systems.  The field engineer is responsible for monitoring safety, cost, and quality of the assigned feature of work. 

     

    KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Supports daily field operations by providing technical guidance to craft personnel.
    • Ensures equipment, materials and required resources are ready to execute and meet the production schedules.
    • Develops work plans with superintendents and develop job hazard analysis plans for the crews to follow.
    • Manages the three-week look ahead schedule for the assigned features of work.
    • Maintains daily records of quality, production, manpower, weather, and incidents in accordance with the company’s procedures and/or project requirements.
    • Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, and/or labor to determine project feasibility.
    • Evaluates submittals and RFI’s and takes appropriate action based on contractual requirements.
    • Plan and design structures, following construction and government standards/codes, using design software.
    • Compute load and grade requirements, water flow-rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.
    • Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, safety standards, and productivity goals.
    • Provide technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to managerial personnel.
    • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, plans, specifications, contractual documents, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
    • Flexibility to perform related responsibilities as assigned and when necessary throughout the project.
    • Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc. Ability to relocate as needed.
    • Maintains positive and professional relationship with inspectors and designers.

    • Must have the personality to work in strong union environment.
    • Able to work with a variety of staff and coordinate effectively with junior and senior managers or craft personnel.
    • Must be physically capable of climbing and working from various heights.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written as well as effective active listening skills to synthesize oral information.
    • Ability to work well in a non-structured environment, self-motivated and driven to accomplish project goals.
    • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel, database management, and AutoCAD.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in an Civil engineering, or engineering-related field 
    • 5-10 years of experience in heavy civil construction
    • Experience with bridge construction required
    • Major bridge segmental precast and post tensioning experience
    • PTI Level 1 and Level 2 Bonded PT Field Specialist Certification preferred
  • Qualifications
