POSITION OVERVIEW
Antietam National Battlefield is expanding outreach to students and youth in the tri-state area. A Resource Education and Interpretation Assistant is needed to assist park rangers with educational programming and to provide outreach to local schools. The Resource Education and Interpretation Assistant will also help expand youth programming by presenting Parks as Classrooms programs at the Mumma Farm Education Center during the fall. In exchange, the intern will receive mentoring, job skills training, a stipend, professional experience, and potentially an education grant.
The Resource Education and Interpretation Assistant's primary duties will be to assist in presenting Parks as Classrooms programs (history, social studies, and environmental education) to local students in grades K-12 to increase youth visitation by 10%. At the park visitor center intern will work at the information desk, provide informal interpretation, and present interpretive programs.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
Assist with development of new parks as classrooms programs.
Work with local schools to increase visitation by students to park by 10%
iii. The Resource Education and Interpretation Assistant will work at the park visitor center presenting 30-minute Battlefield Orientation Talks, working the information desk, providing informal interpretation, and presenting living history programs. The intern will present over twelve different types of hands-on, curriculum-based, Parks as Classrooms programs to students K-12.
The Resource Education and Interpretation Assistant will be responsible for responding to inquiries from teachers and scheduling on and off-site field trips for the education staff. Each program will be adapted to group size and ability level, teacher goals, weather conditions, schedules, audience knowledge and interest, and ranger staffing levels.
The Resource Education and Interpretation Assistant will present curriculum-based programs to students and a variety of youth groups. The Resource Education and Interpretation Assistant will operate a Youth Activities Tent this fall at Antietam National Battlefield.
Resource Education and Interpretation Assistant will present third-person, living history interpretation and develop an accurate, in-depth knowledge of 19th century American history.

Required Skills Required Experience
Meet one of the following experience/education requirements for Security Officer:
Be at least 21 years of age.
Possess and provide proof of at a minimum, either a HS diploma or GED equivalency certificate or a higher degree.
Successfully pass a criminal history background investigation
Must Speak English fluently; read and comprehend written English.
Must be able to demonstrate excellent skill using Microsoft applications
Must be capable of learning new computer programs and applications
Must be able to work various shifts, to include weekends and Holidays
Must be able to successfully complete approximately 80 hrs. of company provided training. (Classes are scheduled 7 days a week)
Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment physical exam and drug screen
Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment Physical Readiness Test
Must be able to successfully complete and pass all company provided training; to include Expandable Baton, Defensive Tactics, and incident report writing.
Must be able to successfully pass the Alutiiq Driver’s Safety Course
Must have a clean Driving Record
Must possess and maintain state required Armed Security Officer licensing
Must possess and maintain state required Concealed Carry Permit (where applicable)
Current Operator’s permit. (Driver’s License)
Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work with little supervision
