    Apex is seeking an analytical action-oriented Wind Engineer to play a critical role in supporting technical problems. This position is part of a dynamic and collaborative team. The Wind Engineer is responsible for analysing technical and commercial risk for wind turbines.  They will support technical due diligence, turbine specifications, site suitability, permitting and interact with multiple departments. The candidate for this position should be adaptable and capable of working with an energetic team of professionals and should have familiarity with IEC 61400-12, power curve analysis, and PMI methodology. 

    The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, hard-working team player. The Wind Engineer position requires equally excellent communication and technical skills as well as the ability to work in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities. A passion for renewable energy is a must! This position is part of a dynamic and collaborative team. But we can’t do it without YOU!

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    • Analyze technical risks for wind turbines and inform selection decisions.  
    • Evaluate technological commercial risks in procurement contracts  
    • Conduct market research on supply chain and technology trends  
    • Assist in technical diligence process with lenders and wind power project stakeholders while organizing turbine specifications within the document control system 
    • Advise wind turbine suitability based on coordination with turbine vendors alongside wind project developers on permitting and technical optimization in relation to the turbine selection 
    • 10-15% travel on site and factories to monitor for technical risks of a turbine  
    • Compatibility to work with energy analysts to optimize energy production 
    • Perform or review capacity and performance curve tests for projects in commissioning 
    • Ability to select best wind technology on a site-specific basis, and manage development met station implementation and data/tuning

     

    SUCCESS PROFILE:

    To succeed as a Wind Engineer at Apex Clean Energy, you'll need to excel within the following criteria:

    • Bachelor's degree or higher (Master’s degree preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or other scientific or engineering discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    • Preferred minimum of 5 years of relevant technical experience in wind resource/energy prediction 
    • Experience within Energy Analysis, Wind Software (openWind, Windographer), Python, SQL server code-based analysis tools and Project Management Institute (PMI) methodology or equivalent 
    • Familiarity with International Standard IEC 61400-12 and associated wind design and performance standards. 
    • Demonstrate ability to understand site suitability process, power performance, power curve analysis, wind plant design, and losses associated with the project 
    • Experience with both technical and commercial, of how renewable energy assets are developed, constructed, operated, and financed. 
    • Proven ability to think creatively to solve scientific and technical problems cross-functionally. 
    • Eager to work from our headquarters in Charlottesville, VA; remote work may be a possibility for the right candidate.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Works primarily traditional office hours in remote office environment. Flexible work hours allowed when work duties and business operations permit.
