Job Description
The application engineer is a technical role that may include significant Client interaction in the early concept design development stage of a project. The position reports into the Sales / Business Development team, however there is significant interaction with the Apex Design Department
The primary role of the application engineer is liaising directly with a Client, upon introduction by the Apex Sales / Business Development team. The Client engagement results in an in-depth discussion with the Client of the project and a technology solution that meets the Client’s need. The application engineer should have the ability to offer a variety of solutions, discussing pros / cons so that the Client is able to identify the most functional and cost-effective solution for his property. The types of jobs that this will cover includes new construction design and / or remodel and retrofits.
The application engineer will work independently to perform concept design layouts and interface with Company design teams to ensure functionality of the design. Additionally, the application engineer may need to interface with external entities (Service Providers, etc.) to ensure a ‘fit for purpose’ Client design. Finally, the application engineer will be expected to explore new technology solutions by engaging with vendors and attending national trade shows.
In addition to providing a technical solution, the role of the application engineer will also be responsible to review General Contractor RFP’s, drawings, specifications and develop proposals.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERTISE
The Application engineer must have a strong working knowledge and experience with most of the following technology systems in building design and construction environment. Company will provide necessary training / mentorship to develop suitable capabilities to address any working knowledge gaps:

DETAILED ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
· Support company relationship with clients by providing integrated technical solutions to meet Client needs.
· Set and manage Client expectations.
· Define channels for communication and provide frequent Client updates, keep Client and other project stakeholders apprised of progress and any necessary modifications or delays.
· Approach client with a consultant frame of mind, listen and probe for additional business opportunities.
· Manage design changes and customer change requests.
· Lead project meetings during low voltage system design phase
· Seek customer feedback, respond to, and resolve issues and they arise.
APPLICATION ENGINEERING
· Lead customer through the concept program design / visioning phase
· Develop reports, sketches, and budgets to communicate recommendations to clients in a manufacturer-neutral, iterative fashion.
· Familiar with relevant AHJ codes to ensure concept design layouts meet applicable codes.
· Proactively identify new technology and market trends that will assist Client with their project requirements.
· Plan and lead project meetings establish meeting agendas, document meeting minutes.
· Maintain action item and issues log.
· Liaise, as necessary, with vendors to learn new technology that can be applied to Client projects, expanding Company technical skill set in the marketplace.
· Develop bids for management review, reflecting technical considerations required by Client

QUALIFICATIONS:
· 5+ years of experience in security / low voltage technology and engineering experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility in an AEC environment.
· Bachelor’s degree from a four (4) year accredited university in engineering preferred, computer science or other technical area. Significant experience / years of service in love voltage design and consulting may be considered in lieu of degree.
· Professional demeanor and able to communicate effectively with Client executives and decision makers.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
· Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
· Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
· Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
· Preference given to candidates with associate or bachelor’s degree
· Reliable transportation to and from work
· Valid driver’s license for the state of Colorado and clear driving record for last three years
· Must be able to pass a security background check
· Must be able to maintain regular, punctual attendance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

· Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for 8 hours at a time
· Able to work in non-heated or cooled construction sites for extended periods of time

· Vision- Near and Far vision, the ability to distinguish differences in colors and color, and ability to adjust focus
· Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs., including overhead
· Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, pulling, fine manipulation skills using hands, arms, shoulders, back, and legs
· Must be able to work from ladders and elevated platforms
· Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
· Must be able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test
