    POSITION SCOPE:

    The Production Supervisor is responsible for directly supervising production operations and planning/coordinating the plant’s shift staffing requirements. Through general and close supervision through Line Technicians, maintain and enforce all health & safety policies and procedures for the safe manufacturing of quality products in line with communicated target quantities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    Responsible for manual inspection of line, components, bulk and affiliated materials and for the manual start-up of each production line following a changeover. This shall include the physical sign off authorizing the line to start up and documenting that line leaders and appropriate staff have been made aware of the requirements for the next production run

    Communicating and coordinating daily activities to deliver high standards and key results

    Coaching and developing the production team as well as managing the labour variance model and cost controls

    Responsible for daily attainment of production schedule

    Ensure production schedules are met and appropriate follow-up to resolve problems is taken

    Provide assistance in scheduling, forecasting changes and demands, and resolving production/manpower issues

    Ensure proper methods and procedures are being used and that quality, safety, and environment standards and cost targets are met daily

    Ensuring plant employees are trained in GMP, Health & Safety, and SOP's in accordance with legislative requirements and company polices

    Deliver orientation and training as required to ensure a safe and efficient work force

    Lead and participate in regular inspections and audits to ensure safe and effective operations

    Provide hands-on leadership and direction to production employees by coaching and managing in a positive and constructive manner

    Ensures that people resources are effectively utilized and issues are resolved in order to establish and maintain a positive and engaged work environment

    Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, service and cost

    Ensure all SOP’s are followed accurately

    Daily reconciliation of all work orders on shift in Syspro

    Have direct knowledge of equipment and processes related to production

    Generate work orders manually when required

    Regularly review and assess health risks/occupational hazards, and communicate findings to the JHSC for review and action in compliance with regulatory/statutory requirements/standards

    Actively contribute and participate in correcting identified occupational health & safety deficiencies

    Recommend and evaluate best practices as related to health & safety policies and programs in the department

    Conduct monthly workplace inspections and address health and safety concerns in an appropriate timeframe

    Complete and return accident/incident investigations thoroughly and promptly ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented

    Provide support to the Early & Safe Return to Work program

    Provide assistance and counseling to employees as required on the application health & safety policies and procedures

    Serve on and/or support the divisional (Joint) Health & Safety Committee(s) and ensure committees have the support and tools required for success

    Identify training needs of staff regularly

    Become knowledgeable with and conduct all work related activities in accordance with applicable OHSA legislation and company policies and procedures

    Maintenance and verification of training documentation on an annual basis

    Ensure batches are produced in accordance with the production schedule.

    Communicate and help resolve employee concerns with management.

    Perform other duties as assigned

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

    KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 10+ years progressive experience with high school diploma or equivalency required or 5+ years progressive experience with post-secondary education or other job required certification or license required; Diploma/Degree in Engineering/Technical Discipline required

    INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/CONTACTS: occasional access to confidential or sensitive information; frequent internal interactions and/or frequent external interactions; purpose of internal/external contacts is regularly related to complex matters; occasional selling, negotiating, consulting, teaching/instructing, or advising; above average level of written and verbal communication skills required for successful job performance
