Start a Hands-On Career in Appliance Repair

Are you mechanically inclined, curious about how things work, and ready to build a skilled career? Home Appliance is hiring an Appliance Repair Technician Apprentice.

No previous appliance repair experience is required. We are looking for a dependable, customer-focused person who enjoys solving problems, working with tools, and learning new technology.

You will begin with approximately eight weeks of paid training at $20 per hour. Training includes working alongside experienced technicians, manufacturer instruction, classroom learning, online courses, and hands-on practice.

Once you successfully complete training and demonstrate that you can independently diagnose and resolve appliance problems, you may begin running your own route and become eligible to earn commission in addition to your base pay.

    What You’ll Learn

During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to:

Diagnose problems with kitchen and laundry appliances

Repair refrigerators, ranges, ovens, cooktops, dishwashers, washers, dryers, and other major household appliances

Perform preventive maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations

Use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, technical resources, and manufacturer information

Determine the parts and procedures needed to complete a repair

Explain appliance problems and recommended solutions clearly to customers

Provide accurate repair estimates within company procedures

Teach customers how to properly operate and care for their appliances

Maintain accurate service records, notes, and documentation

Manage parts and inventory carried in your service truck

Keep your company truck clean, safe, and organized

Safely operate a company-provided service truck

Deliver a professional and respectful experience in customers’ homes

Use company resources and support systems when facing unfamiliar problems

    Your Training and Career Path

Your initial training will last approximately eight weeks and include:

    Ride-along training with experienced technicians

    Hands-on repair instruction

    Manufacturer-provided training

    Classroom instruction

    Online courses and technical resources

    Customer-service and company-process training

Assistance earning EPA 608 certification if you do not already have it

Guidance obtaining the tools needed for the position

Before running your own route, you must demonstrate that you can safely and independently diagnose and resolve common appliance problems while effectively using the tools, technical information, and support resources available to you.

Once approved to run your own route and take your own service calls, you can:

    Become eligible to earn commission

Advance through multiple Service Technician levels

Increase your commission percentage as your skills and performance grow

Build toward senior technician and leadership opportunities

You May Be a Great Fit If You

Have strong mechanical aptitude and enjoy troubleshooting problems

Are curious, resourceful, and willing to keep learning

Are dependable, punctual, and able to manage your time

Take pride in completing quality work

Can follow detailed instructions and accept coaching

Are comfortable using computers, mobile devices, and online resources

Communicate clearly and treat customers professionally

Can work independently after completing training

Are physically able to stand for extended periods and safely lift or move heavy objects

Have a high school diploma or GED

Have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Can qualify as a driver under the company’s vehicle insurance policy

Are willing to complete the company’s background investigation and drug-screening process

Experience in maintenance, automotive repair, HVAC, electrical work, plumbing, construction, electronics, equipment repair, or another hands-on field is helpful—but not required.

    Tools and Equipment

Service technicians are expected to provide the tools required for the position. During your apprenticeship, Home Appliance will provide a tool list and help you obtain the tools you need.

The company provides the service truck you will use when running your own route.

    Compensation and Benefits

$20 per hour during approximately eight weeks of paid training

    Projected first-year earnings of $45,000–$65,000

Commission eligibility after successfully completing training and running your own route

Increasing commission percentages as you advance through technician levels

    Medical, dental, and vision insurance

    401(k) with company matching

    Paid time off

    Employee discounts

    Training and professional development
