    Position Summary

    The Applications Engineer is responsible for developing conceptual equipment and station designs in a 3D environment to support customer proposals and new equipment development. This role evaluates customer specifications, conducts technical research, and develops cost-effective automation solutions that balance material and labor considerations.

    The Applications Engineer prepares layouts, documentation, and technical details required for formal quotations and works closely with customers, Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams. Responsibilities include customer interaction, site visits, proposal development, and ensuring all proposals are accurate, timely, and clearly presented. The role may also include detailed mechanical design work for automated systems supporting single or multi-station assembly applications.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Conceptualize and interpret customer requirements for automated equipment and systems.

    • Develop accurate and competitive estimates for proposals with cost-reduction strategies in mind.

    • Interface directly with customers to define project scope and support Sales efforts.

    • Perform design calculations and develop machine cycle time documentation.

    • Provide technical guidance to Engineering and the assembly floor based on proposal requirements.

    • Analyze and evaluate job costs and understand job cost control procedures.

    • Prepare clear, concise, and well-organized technical proposals and AutoCAD layouts.

    • Provide technical support to the Automation department.

    • Estimate mechanical and electrical engineering, manufacturing, and assembly labor hours for stations, machines, or complete cells.

    • Collaborate with suppliers to obtain cost-effective quotations for equipment and services.

    • Develop complex mechanical designs and detailing for automated systems using Autodesk Inventor.

    • Apply basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

    • Confirm design components and processes align with best engineering practices.

    • Travel as required to support customer visits and project needs.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience

    • Associate degree in Drafting and Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing, machine design, or machine assembly environments.

    Required Qualifications

    • Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards; familiarity with ISO 9001.

    • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.

    • Advanced proficiency in 3D design software; working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

    • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and multitasking abilities.

    • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.

    • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
