Apprentice Electrician
Advantage Electric is a top-rated, privately owned residential and commercial electrical service company in the Twin Cities. We’re looking for a motivated Apprentice Electrician to join our team. This position is ideal for someone actively working toward their Journeyman license who is seeking hands-on experience, consistent work, and long-term growth. One to two years of documented work experience hours with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry is preferred.
Position Overview
The Apprentice Electrician supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and light commercial electrical systems under the supervision of a Journeyman or Master Electrician. This role is both hands-on and educational, providing practical experience while developing the skills required to advance toward a Journeyman license. Apprentice may be required to also help owner with maintenance of properties as well as shop organization and keeping truck stock.
Essential Functions
Assist the Electrician with daily tasks, including retrieving parts from the truck, handling tools, and supporting jobsite demands
Assist with and complete requested work on electrical equipment under the direction of a Journeyman or Master Electrician, including testing malfunctioning equipment, identifying defects, troubleshooting, repairing equipment, and replacing defective parts
Work independently at times on electrical tasks that require less skill or experience, under supervision
Follow manuals, schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and equipment specifications when completing work
Participate in ongoing, hands-on training as part of an educational path toward becoming a Journeyman Electrician
Learn and follow proper procedures for installing and maintaining electrical systems, including all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and safety requirements
Follow company standard operating procedures
Maintain a professional presence with customers and team members
Qualifications & Skills
1-2 years of documented work experience hours with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry is preferred
Ability to work under the direction of a Journeyman Electrician and follow electrical code manuals
Strong willingness and eagerness to learn the trade
Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documents (or willingness to learn)
Experience using hand tools, power tools, and basic testing equipment
Clear verbal and written communication skills
Strong time-management skills with the ability to shift priorities based on supervisor direction
Team-oriented mindset with respect for coworkers, customers, and diverse backgrounds
Physical Requirements
Frequently moves electrical equipment and materials
Must be able to lift, push, and/or pull up to 75 pounds
Must be able to bend, twist, squat, kneel, and reach to perform job duties
Additional Requirements
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Personal vehicle and current auto insurance
Ability to pass a background check, drug test and remain drug-free while working
