    STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

    DEPARTMENT: STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING

    NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION

    Aptive is seeking a full-time Senior Strategic Communications Specialist with six to eight years of experience uncovering insights and providing data-driven recommendations that improve the content, presentation, functionality, and dissemination of high-profile products. Experience writing about research and development and/or science and engineering topics is highly preferred.

    The candidate must have strong writing, communication and organizational skills to support a federal client. S/he needs to be comfortable with client-facing responsibilities and have the ability to contribute to both immediate and long-term projects with competing priorities. Daily responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to, writing reports, conducting stakeholder interviews, fact-checking information, mining databases and research publications for insights, presenting data in both written and visual formats, and creating an array of communications materials designed for the scientific community.

    This position requires a strategic mindset and a clear understanding of writing and research best practices. A successful candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and motivated to succeed. S/he should be able to work comfortably both independently and as part of a larger team, and will be expected to contribute to finding innovative solutions to complex problems.

    This full-time position is located at the Aptive Resources offices in Alexandria, VA. Opportunities for telework are also available. Aptive is currently working remotely due to COVID-19.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS.

    • Six to eight years of strategic communications experience.
    • Demonstrative experience developing content for print, digital, and social platforms.
    • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field.
    • Strong organization, time-management, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
    • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment carrying out multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
    • Interest in interacting with stakeholders and presenting information to clients.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

    DESIRED SKILLS.

    • Writing experience within science and engineering related domains.
    • Graphic design and data visualization experience.
    • Experience in performing and analyzing primary and secondary research efforts.

    JOB DUTIES.

    • Conduct interviews, perform daily research, and collect data that contributes to broader recommendations on communication products, dissemination campaigns, and other integrated marketing efforts.
    • Develop a wide range of written and visual communications artifacts.
    • Establish and nurture meaningful relationships with clients, partners, subject matter experts, industry leaders, and other highly prominent stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with the team to develop and execute communications requirements, review content, fact-check insights, and gather feedback.
