    Aptive is seeking a writer/editor with 3 years of demonstrated experience.

    The ideal candidate should have knowledge and understanding of Veterans assistance programs and how they support transitioning veterans, military spouses, and their families. They should have worked within and/or understand the Department of Defense and Federal Agencies, in particular the Department of Veterans Affairs. The candidate should have knowledge and experience in writing and editing technical documents.

    This is a junior associate level, full-time position in the Washington DC area.

    This is a contingent hire position.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS.

    • 3 years of writing and editing experience.
    • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, or related field.
    • Experience supporting large federal agencies, ideally the Department of Veterans Affairs.
    • Ability to work onsite at the contractor location in Washington, DC.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

    JOB DUTIES.

    • Performs writing, editing, and/or rewriting of moderately complex technical documents and reports.
    • Collects, organizes, and formats data, charts, and diagrams.
    • Apply consistent formatting and style throughout documents and contract deliverables.
    • Knowledge, understanding, and use of a variety of software programs to develop documentation.
    • Ability to work with senior technical staff to ensure accuracy and completeness of documents and reports.
    • Conducts research and ensures the use of proper technical terminology.
    • Translate technical information into clear, readable documents for use by technical and non-technical personnel.

    • Possess excellent critical thinking, leadership, analysis, and data gathering skills.
    • Knowledge of military and Veteran populations.

The Office of Transition and Economic Development (OTED) is currently serving as VA's policy and program lead for preparing service members to become civilian ready through its services provided during the Transition Assistance Program (TAP); serving as VA's authority on Veteran economic development policies and initiatives, including Chapter 36 Personalized Career Planning and Guidance; and orchestrating public and private partnerships which support the total well-being of service members, Veterans, and their families before, during, and after their transition from military life.
