    Aptive is seeking a versatile communications and marketing writer/editor to support our Veterans Health Administration recruitment marketing client. The writer/editor uses research, interviews, journalistic skills and storytelling to communicate the benefits of working at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The writer/editor serves on a team developing creative marketing materials for strategic communications campaigns, digital outreach, partnership and public relations, and websites.  

    This position is located at Aptive headquarters in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia; some telework days are an option. Remote applicants from outside the area are considered.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or a related field.
    • Three to five years of experience writing/editing in a communications-, journalism- or media-related capacity; government experience is a plus.
    • Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
    • U.S. citizenship.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES.

    • Research, write, edit and support a broad range of communications materials (e.g., articles, blogs, brochures, campaign plans, fact sheets, flyers, media pitches, outreach scripts, social media posts) under strict deadlines.
    • Interview sources and develop content that conveys critical information reflecting key messages.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of communications campaigns.
    • Develop content for comprehensive marketing materials, such as toolkits and guides.
    • Develop content for websites.
    • Gather, analyze, fact check and interpret information and data from various sources.
    • Plan, generate and deliver client-ready materials for stakeholders, including leadership.
    • Schedule and attend meetings on a regular basis.
    • Write, review and edit content in compliance with AP style and other guidelines.
    • Review documents for stylistic and formatting consistency.

    NECESSARY SKILL SETS.

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Experience in communications, research, writing and editing.
    • Proficiency in organizing and communicating information in plain language.
    • Ability to manage multiple moving parts, juggle assignments and make sound decisions.
    • Ability to deliver clear, compelling communications for any media.
    • Understands how to collaborate on a team and take initiative as an individual.
    • Has a positive, energetic attitude with a strong desire to meet goals, priorities and commitments.

    PREFERRED SKILL SETS.

    • Experience writing about health topics and Veterans' issues.
    • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish.
