    About the Role:

    Aquila is seeking a Software Developer - Data Architectures to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The group currently seeks a Software Developer expert to support prototyping efforts to improve Battle Management and information sharing for the DoD. The group is involved in problem analysis and innovative solution design, system architecture, rapid prototyping and field-testing, and ultimately the transfer of technology. 

    There are a few requirements for the position:

    • Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
    • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
    • Reside within 100 miles of Lexington, Massachusetts.

    What You’ll Do:

    As a Software Developer, you will be responsible for developing and integrating distributed data architecture solutions and implementing prototypes of relevant architectural elements to jump-start the transition and final production of capabilities. You will support modernization efforts that align with the Department of Defense (DoD) efforts for sharing data and information across multiple platforms and domains in a cloud environment. You will research and assess emerging technologies and intelligence tradecraft to support program initiatives.

    • 3 years GIT/GitHub
    • 3 years of IDE to Java
    • 3 years of Java Development
    • 3 years Object Oriented Software Design and Development
    • 3 years of Python
    • 3 years of Software Architecture
    • 3 years of Software Design/Development

    Experience with the Following Technologies:

    • Proficiency in Python and/or Java
    • Familiarity with web frameworks (for example, angular, nodejs, Django)
    • Proficiency with containers and container orchestration (for example, docker and Kubernetes)
    • Experience with pub-sub/streaming/event-based architectures (for example, Kafka and ActiveMQ)
    • Experience with distributed data architectures
    • Experienced reviewing and assessing existing enterprise data-driven applications to support new features, performance improvements, upgrades, and ongoing sustainment

    Working Knowledge of the Following:

    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to work as part of a team applying agile development methods and independently with minimal direction and oversight

    And These Skills are a Bonus:

    • Have an active DoD TS/SCI Clearance
    • Proficiency in developing extensive distributed systems and applying techniques for low-latency system performance
    • Proficiency with React or other modern frontend frameworks
    • Experience with Data Bus, Data Ops, and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) technologies
    • Familiarity with microservice-based architectures
    • Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines, practices, techniques, and technologies (for example, Jenkins and maven)
    • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Istio, and associated tooling
    • Skilled at analyzing an extensive, complex system to determine performance bottlenecks, application bugs, and opportunities to improve efficiency

    Work Schedule: This position is Hybrid. The candidate works from home or off-site for a portion of their schedule and MUST be flexible to work on-site when required. Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.
