About the Role:
Aquila is seeking a Software Developer to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The group works on air defense issues, in particular, air vehicle survivability, vulnerability of aircraft to weapons systems, electronic countermeasures, and air surveillance for homeland defense.
There are a few requirements for the position:
- Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
- Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
- Reside within 100 miles of Lexington, Massachusetts.
What You’ll Do:
The candidate will work as part of a small team. Primary duties will consist of supporting the development of a real-time software architecture and software source control and distribution for a variety of software efforts within the group.
Responsibilities will include:
- Development of new applications for signal processing, visualization, and command and control.
- Maintaining the integrity of the group’s core software libraries and documentation
- Participating in code reviews
- Standing up and maintaining development tools and infrastructure
- Designing and building appropriate testing environments
- Supporting the organization of newly integrated contributions.
- Capture software requirements, feature requests, and bug reports
- Identify and maintain software sub-tasks needed to meet user requirements
- Monitoring progress on subtasks and report status to supervisor via Jira and Git.
- Perform code reviews and system integration testing and report results to supervisor
- Demonstrate software for end users and capture feedback

Working Knowledge of the Following:
- Candidates should have a strong background in modern C++ and object-oriented design within a Linux environment as well as experience with GUI development
- Strong knowledge of the Linux operating system and experience with Linux development tools and other standard C++ development libraries
- Experience with multi-threaded applications
- Strong knowledge of CMake and modern CMake patterns
- Strong knowledge of Qt
- Strong knowledge of DDS technologies and Publish/Subscribe systems
- Experience with CI/CD software.
- Capable of designing and implementing robust tests for development projects
- Algorithms and radar signal processing experience
- The desire to work in a team environment with strong teaming skills

Location: Lexington, MA
Work Schedule: Hybrid: Individual works from home or off-site for a portion of their schedule and within a routinely commutable distance from the Lexington facility. Candidate should expect to be onsite 3 days a week. Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.
Clearance: Candidates must possess Active Secret Clearance to be considered
Travel: Estimated at 10% - domestic only
