    About the Role:

    Aquila is seeking a Systems Engineer - Open Architectures to join our team in supporting one of this country’s premier defense research organizations. The area of significant focus is the application of modern software engineering principles and commercial best practices to define and prototype open architecture solutions that provide mission-critical capabilities to the warfighter. A combination of approaches will be applied to ensure the success of the flexible composition of sensors, processors, ground stations, and command centers. With program growth, the group succeeds in all phases, including problem analysis and innovative solution design, system architecture, rapid prototyping, field-testing, and ultimately transfer of our technology.

    What You’ll Do:

    The Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing and integrating distributed data architecture solutions and implementing prototypes of relevant architectural elements to jump-start the transition and final production of capabilities. The candidate will need to support modernization efforts that align with the Department of Defense (DoD) efforts for sharing data and information across multiple platforms and domains in a cloud environment. The candidate will also research and assess emerging technologies and intelligence tradecraft to support program initiatives.

    What You’ll Bring:

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • 5 years of Systems Engineering
    • 3 years of Systems Analysis
    • 5 years of Systems Integration

    Experience with the Following Technologies:

    • Experience with distributed data architectures and Data Bus, Data Ops, and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) technologies
    • Experienced reviewing and assessing existing enterprise data-driven applications to support new features, performance improvements, upgrades, and ongoing sustainment

    Working Knowledge of the Following:

    • Understanding of various architecture frameworks, mainly as they apply at multiple levels across domains and platforms targeting a cloud environment
    • Highly skilled at analyzing an extensive, complex system to determine performance bottlenecks, application bugs, and opportunities to improve efficiency
    • Ability to identify, source, and analyze data, data feeds, and information from available resources, identify trends, draw conclusions, and access interoperability to inform critical business decision
    • Experience gathering and analyzing system requirements and applying structured analytical approaches to match needs to capabilities, identifying gaps, and developing risk mitigation strategies
    • Ability to work as part of a team applying agile development methods and independently with minimal direction and oversight

    And These Skills are a Bonus:

    • Have an active DoD Secret or TS/SCI Clearance
    • Knowledge of the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)
    • Knowledge of the Common Intelligence Picture (CIP) and the Common Operational Picture (COP) concepts
    • Familiarity with or experience with cross-domain solutions utilizing technologies such as Radiant Mercury, Forcepoint High-Speed Guard, AWS Diode, etc.
    • Proficiency in developing extensive distributed systems applying techniques for low-latency system performance
    • Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines, practices, techniques, and technologies
    • Familiarity with modern programming languages such as java, python, or similar
    • Familiarity with Open Mission Systems (OMS) & Universal Command and Control Interface (UCI)
