  • Responsibilities

    The APC/A works closely with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs (direct supervisor) to support undergraduate program management and advising. The APC/A is responsible for supporting excellent service to students, faculty and other staff in order to attract, support and retain students as effectively as possible. 

    The APC/A is responsible for assisting assigned business faculty and students in the development of academic schedules, the academic standing process, the advising process, and related duties appropriate for the stated educational goals of each student.  

    The Advisor APC/A works with the Associate Dean in the development and implementation of a retention plan for the LaPenta School of Business designed to facilitate student progress towards degree completion. 

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Assists with the academic standing process, tracking of student performance, including attendance
    • Facilitates the development and implementation of a retention plan for the LaPenta School of Business by researching literature and current methods regarding student retention specifically addressing student advisement and retention, and recommending alternatives designed to assist students in progressing towards degree completion
    • Ensures the effectiveness of the advising process by maintaining student files, regularly updating academic reports, and validating the information contained in the student files and the student database
    • Serve as liaison with department chairs, faculty, registrar, admissions, student financial services and other college offices as needed regarding students
    • Receive and coordinate applications for readmission
    • Provide frequent feedback to deans, directors, and chairs on program enrollment and student service
    • Prepare summary reports, spreadsheets, and other documents that relate to the management, tracking, and planning of academic offerings
    • Assist with office operations
    • Other duties as assigned by Associate Dean

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • A Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field is required; a Master's degree in Business or Counseling is preferred.  
    • Two-three years of work experience in higher education or customer service is required.  Excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict management, oral and written communications skills are required.  Computer literacy, including MicroSoft Office Suite, Excel is required.  Experience in academic advising is preferred.  Extensive knowledge of Iona College and the Lapenta School of Business, its requirements and regulations, is preferred.
    • Organizational and time management skills are required.  The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Knowledge of PeopleSoft and spreadsheet data analysis is helpful.

  • Qualifications
    • Safely transport residents to and from activities, errands and personal appointments.
    • Assists ambulatory and wheelchair-bound individuals in entering and exiting the vehicle
    • Ensures no passengers are left in the vehicle when route has been completed
    • Maintain pre-trip logs and calls in daily to the dispatcher. Conducts post vehicle inspection at end of shift and immediately reports any concerns
