  • Responsibilities

    The Nursing Manager will, under the direction of the Director of Nursing, provide clinical care to people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. This person will also direct oversight of day-to-day responsibilities of medical team members. The Nursing Manager is the main contact for a variety of nursing functions in support of management and staff, and serves as a resource for clinical expertise and mentoring / coaching of staff. The Nursing Manager facilitates the delivery of quality care through strong critical thinking skills, open communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary health team. The Nursing Manager drives the staff to provide an exceptional experience for the people they support and their families.

    • Assume responsibility and accountability for oversight of the medical team in their assigned homes or programs. Meets with assigned staff on a regular basis making sure responsibilities of the role are being completed.
    • Assures medical team has the tools required to care for the individuals supported in the organization.
    • Performs initial and ongoing assessment of an individual, utilizing appropriate data (i.e. physical, psychological, educational and risk-screen data appropriate for the chronological / developmental age of the individual).
    • In collaboration with the DON, reviews ARC Policy and Procedures on an on-going basis to assure accuracy and compliance with regulatory guidelines.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

    • Identify the true problem vs. the presenting problem; as well as recommend the appropriate intervention to address its resolution.
    • Be able to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization and possess the ability to present new ideas to leadership team to inform, stimulate thinking, or promote creative strategies, even if there would be resistance.
    • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Quickly adapt to changing needs.
    • Proven experience working as a team player.
    • Must have excellent written communication. Must be able to summarize information and describe medical situations using descriptive, objective language.
    • Be able to relate to people with sensitivity, tact and objectivity.
    • Experience in the field of OPWDD preferred.

     

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    • BASIC OUTLOOK skills as evidenced by creating and sending messages, working with address books, message handling, creating and using personal folders, scheduling appointments, working with meeting requests and managing tasks.
    • BASIC MICROSOFT WORD skills as evidenced by the ability to produce basic business letters and simple tables and charts; as well as check spelling, set tabs, change page orientation, sort, save, open and organize electronic files.
    • MODERATE EXCEL skills as evidenced by the ability to use workbooks, create simple formulas, insert and delete data, create and edit charts, filter and sort lists, and format data.
    • ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORD skills highly recommended.

    Required Experience

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN required.  Minimally 2 years of supervisory/leadership experience required. Experience working in field of intellectual and developmental disabilities highly recommended.

     

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

    • Current license by the NYS Department of Education as Registered Nurse
    • Must have access to timely and reliable transportation to transport self to multiple sites.
