    Position Overview

AKIVA is seeking an Architect to support the VA Long Beach Healthcare System Engineering Service under the Section Chief. The Architect is primarily responsible for site investigations supporting the documentation of campus buildings and all associated utilities, and for the independent planning and execution of assigned tasks — including the accurate documentation of existing structures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems using AutoCAD and Revit.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct site investigations and independently create full campus facility architectural and engineering documentation, including utilities, using AutoCAD and Revit for all existing campus buildings

    • Prepare detailed, scaled AutoCAD and Revit drawings, reflected ceiling plans, and elevations of buildings and utility components; document important notations from site investigations

    • Analyze architectural drawings and follow a consistent system of AutoCAD and Revit plan layers covering building codes, major equipment, materials, placeholder furnishings, and traffic patterns

    • Interpret and review provided architectural plans for concurrence with the VA TIL, standards, and specifications

    • Identify incomplete or inaccurate information; evaluate and recommend solutions to complex interrelated problems; raise concerns to the Section Chief and document resolutions in drawing files

    • Update drawing files with outside Contractor Companies — uploading AutoCAD and Revit drawings into the outside Contractor's environment, noting departmental changes, and updating functions of space after moves and minor construction

    • Maintain the Drawing Room and associated plans and project binders; assist in managing archival and original building drawings

    • Follow working knowledge of ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC, OSHA, International Fire Code (IFC), and Life Safety

    • Identify, develop, and manage projects making improvements to medical facilities and surrounding property (renovations, interior finishes, water distribution, wastewater, storm drains, roads, and pavement)

    • Coordinate with Contracting, Logistics, EMS, OI&T, Material Management, end users, and Engineering to complete documentation of the entire campus; create and maintain the documentation project schedule

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum five (5) years of architectural employment, including a minimum of two (2) years of site investigations, preferably in the healthcare field

    • Knowledge of healthcare design; understanding of fire codes, life safety codes, building codes, barrier-free design, systems, components, cleaning and maintenance concepts, ergonomics, and safety criteria

    • Knowledge of building systems in commercial and healthcare construction (architectural, structural, civil, landscaping, equipment, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm/fire protection, telecommunications)

    • Ability to perform site investigations and identify variances between drawings and the built environment for a 100-acre property with 20+ buildings of varying construction and occupancy types

    • Ability to review and interpret construction drawings and specifications for all disciplines and trades

    • Skilled in free-form drawing and drawing to scale when on a job site

    • Minimum 2 years of AutoCAD, 2 years of Revit, and 2 years of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) experience

    • Effective written and verbal communication with contractors, management officials, vendors, Contracting Officers, and VA Long Beach staff

    • Must be authorized to work in the United States

    Preferred Qualifications

    • NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) registration

    • Project Management Certification

    • Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC)

    • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation

    • Experience with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Teams

    Tools, Technologies & Frameworks

Design: AutoCAD, Revit | Productivity: Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Teams | Standards: ABAAS, VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA TIL, ICC, OSHA, IFC, Life Safety | Deliverables: scaled drawings, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, campus documentation
