- Responsible for the development, direction, leadership and for providing input into the performance appraisal of the plant EH&S Engineers. Responsibilities include mentoring, coaching, counseling and corrective action when situations dictate
- Provide direction and leadership consitent with corporate business plan goals
- Responsible for the identification, selection, training and coaching of EH&S management talent
- Provides guidance and counsel to leadership and functional management teams on a variety of issues including safety, ergonomic, environmental, industrial hygiene and risk management programs, processes and systems
- Provides leadership in all environmental, health and safety programs and processes including the development, coordination, implementation, and maintenance of EH&S programs, processes and services including policy development and compliance
- Direct all area plant environmental, health and safety compliance and management system functions and activities. Maintain communications with Plant Managers, Global EHS Director and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) colleagues
- Guide the research, development and implementation of programs and best practices to minimize safety incidents through implementation of proactive and innovative programs
- Guide and assist in leading initiatives to assess and minimize workplace risks and work with Supervisors, Managers and colleagues to integrate EH&S into daily work activities
- Guide strategic efforts to reduce work related injuries and illnesses (e.g. ergonomic process, layered process auditing, behavior-based safety process)
- Guide the development and delivery of training and/or training tools on all relevant internal EH&S initiatives and regulatory requirements including but not limited to lockout, confined space, heat stress, and hearing conservation
- Lead, conduct and/or manage EH&S management system and compliance audits of company facility to ensure compliance with internal requirements as well as federal, state, and local health and safety regulations
- Guide the ISO 14000 process and enhance the environmental management system to drive environmental stewardship initiatives through implementation of recycling and pollution prevention projects
- Lead activities to implement change in design of machinery and equipment and work methods to provide for ergonomic improvements for the operators
- Provide key input into the development of the department’s strategic business plan and identify and track key measurables to support department goals
- Ensure compliance with all company and federal/state/local environmental and safety programs, industrial hygiene practices, policies, and procedures through inspections, investigations, training & development.
- Ensure all environmental compliance activities are being followed appropriately including, but not limited to: emissions inventories, preparation and submission of permit certifications and other required compliance reports, permit applications, preparation and strategy, organizing and participating in emissions monitoring activities, reviewing and reporting emissions data, general training, coordinating responses to regulatory agency requests and enforcement actions with Plant EH&S. Interface with federal, state, and local environmental agencies on plant EH&S issues as needed
- Assist the plants in coordinating and/or support the injury management process including, but not limited to, incident investigation, medical management, return to work and workers' compensation claims management
- Assist with plant activities to achieve quality, productivity and cost reduction goals
- Assist with plant activities towards achieving customer awards and Quality registrations (ex. TS 16949/ISO14001, Pentastar)
- Responsible for ensuring that the plant EH&S Managers have the necessary tools and materials to properly perform their roles efficiently
- Responsible for ensuring that all internal and OSHA required procedures are being followed in the performance of daily activities
This full-time salary-exempt role is a part of our Health and Safety team and reports to the Director of Health and Safety.
Required experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial/occupational safety, environmental science or a safety or environmental related field. Master’s degree in a related field preferred
- Minimum eight (8) or more years of professional EH&S experience, with two (2) or more years’ management experience in a similar role within a corporate environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in several environmental, health and safety processes and practices, (ergonomics, ISO 14001, etc.)
- Detailed knowledge of environmental and safety laws
- Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills
- Demonstrated managerial capabilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software and ability to learn internal computer systems
