About the School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist position

School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist responsibilities are:
- Screen pupils for communicative disorders and identify cases according to appropriate criteria as determined by speech-language pathologist and by state and federal guidelines
- Administer assessment procedures, techniques, and standardized tests necessary for thorough and accurate diagnosis of communication disorders
- Determine if students are eligible for the disability category of Speech-Language Impairment and whether there is a need for service in the areas of articulation/phonology, abnormal voice, fluency, and/or language.
- Develop and implement an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), following due process timelines.
- Notify parent, administrator, and appropriate personnel of IEP meeting(s).
- Provide information and assistance to parents, such as strategies based on student
need.
- Schedule and provide individual and/or group therapy as determined by the IEP
team.
- Attempt to maintain a caseload that does not exceed the state-recommended
average of 55 persons per full-time-equivalent speech-language pathologist or 40
preschool students per full-time-equivalent speech-language pathologist.
- Arrange for necessary materials and equipment for speech therapy activities.
- Assume responsibility for implementation of school district policies, California
Department of Education code and regulations, and Federal regulations related to
speech and language therapy services.
- Inform members of the community, administrators, and other school personnel
about speech, language, and hearing problems.
- Attend district meetings and required workshops.
- Pursue professional growth through conferences, workshops, and coursework
School-Based Speech-Language Pathologist requirements are:
- At least 2 years of experience
- Client will sponsor or extend sponsorship if needed
- Strong integrity, judgement, emotional intelligence and professionalism
- School based setting experience are a plus but not necessary
- Will look at recent grads or even grad students
- MASTERS DEGREE IN COMMUNICATION DISORDER OR SPEECH AND LANGUAGE
