ENGINEER II/III - CONTROLS ENGINEER you will perform research and develop new technologies for future RTU/SCADA designs in substations and power plant applications. They will specify RTU related equipment to support Construction and Maintenance projects. They will review and provide input to drawings and create Message Layouts (RTU points lists) for generation plants, transmission and distribution substations, and distribution line devices. Our engineer will configure (program) RTU’s utilizing DNP and Modbus Protocols and work hands on in our engineering lab to test devices. They will perform engineering responsibilities required to support SCADA/Intertie metering, and support in the installation of RTU’s and SCADA/Intertie meters. They will also coordinate with Protection and Controls on new and existing installations as well as coordinate with Integration Automation Specialists (SCADA Techs). In addition, they will troubleshoot RTU communication, metering, and other instrumentation failures and misoperations.
Responsibilities include conceptual and detailed design review of substation one-lines and schematic drawings, wiring diagrams and panel layouts, integration diagrams, connection tables and RTU message layouts . Responsibilities also include communication network design (Ethernet LAN and WAN), serial point-to-point communications, multi-drop networks, time synchronization design, device configurations for RTUs, controllers, meters and transducers, and design input regarding instrument transformers and loss calculations for metering. standards and practices, including intertie metering requirements, is a plus. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
Our Controls Engineer will have experience with standard industry substation wiring practices, instrumentation, protection, and controls. Experience with programming, configuring and testing modern substation RTUs, Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), engineering gateways, communication port switches, HMIs, meters, and transducers is a plus. Basic understanding of protocols such as TCP/IP and DNP3 is a plus. Working knowledge of computer networking concepts is strongly preferred. One must have good understanding of construction, operating and engineering practices, and safety rules.
Knowledge of G.E. D20, and Novatech Orion RTU’s is a plus. Knowledge of Schneider Ion 8600/8650 meters that includes programming and testing is a plus. Knowledge of metering
