  • Responsibilities

    The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is offering a Fall Internship to a qualified candidate who will support Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research team. This paid Internship is a part-time temporary employment opportunity averaging 20-30 hours per week for a postgraduate student. PCORI does not provide housing for out of town residents. All applicants must be eligible to work in the US. Interested parties may apply for internships in multiple departments; please include a specific cover letter for each position.

     

     

    PAY RANGE AND EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

    Interns shall be classified as temporary, part-time employees who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the workforce, or to assist in the completion of a specific project and who are temporarily scheduled to work less than PCORI's full-time schedule for a limited duration. Employment beyond any initially stated period does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Temporary, part-time workers are not eligible for PCORI benefits. 

    Current master's level and above students will be paid $20.00 per hour. 

     

    JOB DUTIES:

    The Fall HDDR intern will assist the Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research team with ongoing work to characterize and develop summary information about PCORI's portfolio of comparative effectiveness research projects to external stakeholders in three specific areas of interest:

    -Telehealth -Novel deployment of personnel, such as the use of community health workers -Addressing disparities

    This work will support a new initiative to identify high priority areas for future investment research to address distributed forms of healthcare delivered outside of conventional institutional settings that are provided closer to individuals in their homes, workplaces, and the community.  This initiative is called Healthcare Without Walls.  In addition, the intern would support ongoing portfolio analyses in the three areas identified above.

    The work will entail: -reading research applications and summary reports to code characteristics of the portfolio that match the concept of Healthcare Without Walls; -working with PCORI staff dedicating time to characterize our investment in telehealth, novel deployment of personnel, and addressing disparities to develop summary materials, such as presentations, reports, and manuscripts -other duties as required

    Required Skills

    The HDDR team seeks a  promising Graduate student or advanced degree holder in a field related to Public Health, Health Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Clinical Fields, and other allied fields (e.g., social work). 

    The ideal intern candidate will have: -Interest healthcare systems research, healthcare systems improvement, addressing disparities, and telehealth. -Experience conducting literature reviews. -Previous experience in a healthcare system (clinical, administrative, community, or research settings), advocacy or relevant stakeholder organization preferred. -Basic understanding of health services research methodology. -Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
