    JOB SUMMARY

    Reports to the Director of Environmental, Safety & Health. The main function of this position will be to assist the Director to ensure Armtec Defense Technologies (EDT) provides a safe and healthful work environment, free from recognized hazards, for all employees by practicing prudent risk identification and mitigation protocols, ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations and developing world-class best practices.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Reviews proposed rules and regulations to determine the effect on Operations at EDT.
    • Prepares, implements and maintains safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
    • Collects data for the preparation of reports on safety status and prepares appropriate reports.
    • Assesses the need for new equipment, prepares the necessary paperwork, and submits to the Director for approval.
    • Prepares, implements, and maintains written programs and procedures, which will ensure and document the company’s adherence to regulations, codes, and practices.
    • Evaluates findings of routine plant inspections in light of good safety practices and laws.
    • Responsible for full integration of Safety and Environmental Management into the facility’s operations as well as ensuring the facility safety and environmental goals are met.
    • Makes recommendations to Management regarding program implementation and improvements.
    • Provides support to the Behavior-Based Safety team.
    • Plans and implements programs to educate, train and provide support to all departments in the development and execution of consistent work site safety practices, fire prevention, spill prevention and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment and other materials.
    • Executes, measures and monitors processes to assess the overall safety performance and identifies opportunities for improvement.
    • Supports the partnership with Operations to identify trends and opportunities for improvements in tools, training or processes.
    • Ensures compliance with all safety, workers compensation and D.O.D. programs.
    • Actively participates in engineering and equipment design using safety by Design principles.
    • Directs accident investigation programs, develops accident trends, develops programs for improving performance.
    • Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel; leads investigations of accidents and injuries; compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies; assist HR in the administration of workers’ compensation program..
    • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicate and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
    • Provides information signs, posters, barriers and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
    • Active member of the Emergency Response/First Responder team.
    • Serves as the principal point of contact for the Management of Change program, Safety Corrective Action Tracking system and other administrative functions.
    • Engages in the typical responsibilities of a Manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, budgeting and delegating.
    • Provides management of employees directly or through Supervisors to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action and performance management.
    • Conducts audits and inspections of operations and facilities to protect the company’s interest and compliance position.
    • Maintains the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above.
    • Understands and lives by Armtec ’s ethics and business conduct policies.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Possesses extensive working knowledge of regulatory requirements for federal and state programs, processes and program implementation strategies, particularly process safety management.
    • CPR/First Aid certification (Instructor preferred).
    • Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes.
    • Ability to develop, conduct and maintain training programs using lecture, Power Point or practical methods.
    • Proficient in MS Office.
    • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
    • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Skilled in organization and prioritization and attention to detail.
    • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
    • Develops and implements a safety program from the ground up specific to the location.
    • Ability to identify training needs and to facilitate and/or provide educational programs to meet those needs; and to conduct training on a variety of subjects.
    • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment.
    • Ability to work under pressure of time constraints and conflicting demands.

    EDUCATION/PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree (EHS related) and a minimum of 5 years experience within a Safety environment.
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM) certification or eligible and on a progressive path toward certification.

    WORK HOURS
