PRIMARY FUNCTION: The PEDIATRIC PRIMARY CARE LCSW provides psychological interventions to treat the chronic and acute psychosocial, emotional, and behavioral aspects of children, teenagers, and their families, as well as patients being treated by our OB/GYN and Adult Medicine departments in a primary care behavioral health (PCBH) model. This clinician conducts intake assessments, individual, family, and group psychotherapy for mental and behavioral health and substance use needs by applying behavioral principles to maladaptive lifestyle and health behaviors in accordance with the applicable professional, ethical, and legal standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
Assessment skills:
Recognition and treatment of psychological components of health problems, mental disorders, and psychosocial problems in children, adolescents, their families, as well as some adult patients.
Early detection of “at risk” patients, aimed at preventing further physical, behavioral, or psychological deterioration.
Use of assessment questions and measures to assess and re-assess current functioning while also attending to the psychological, behavioral, and physical components of health and wellness.
Knowledge of affective and cognitive components of health and illness (e.g. health belief models, medical problems that present as affective diagnosis, affective factors that influence reactions to diagnosis).
Knowledge of the effects of socio-cultural and socioeconomic factors of health and illness that effect children, adolescents, their families, and the general adult population.
Treatment skills:
Work collaboratively with primary care physicians and other health care professionals to provide the best treatment and achieve desired health outcomes; skilled in providing behavioral health consultations to primary care providers.
Assisting patients in adhering to medical treatment plan initiated by primary care provider, such as developing strategies to cope with medication side effects or improving sleep.
Assisting patients to cope with chronic health conditions, progressive conditions, and end of life issues.
Effective and efficient management of patients with chronic health and/or emotional issues.
Helping patients develop cognitive and behavioral self-management skills for disease management and prevention, and to be active participants in their health care.
Proficient use of current, evidence-based interventions to treat physical and mental health issues, such as use of self-care, deep breathing, cognitive restructuring, sleep hygiene, problem-solving, assertive communication, and motivational interviewing.
Focuses patient interventions and recommendations on functional outcomes and symptom reduction.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master's Degree in Social Work with an emphasis working with children and families. Hawaii Licensure is required.
Experience/Skills:
$70,000.00 to $80,400.00 per year plus awesome benefits and sign-on bonus.
