    Location: 7800 W 110th St., Overland Park KS

    The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
    • Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
    • Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required.
    • Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
    • Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
    • Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
    • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
    • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% correct.
    • Package specimens for transport
    • Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen.
    • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
    • Attend annual department trainings.
    • Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states
    • Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Generally, 2+ years of experience

    Experience:

    • Requires 1-2+ years of experience in Phlebotomy at a Doctor's Office/Quest/Any Lab/Hospital, ideally with collection from all age groups
    • Phleb will be working by themselves.
    • MUST have experience with venipuncture and specimen collection.
    • Must know the order-of-draw and have tube/test knowledge.
    • Management does not like Red Cross or blood bank experience (do not count this in the 2 years)
    • Must have tube/test knowledge – understand what tests go in which colored tubes, etc.
    • Must have patient interaction experience, customer-service-minded individual, and be friendly, courteous, and sympathetic when it comes to working with patients.
    • Must have EXCELLENT customer service skills.
    • Candidate must be able to grasp a firm understanding of the importance of compliance and safety on the job.
    • High School Diploma and phlebotomy certification (where required by state)

    Day-to-Day:

    • Phlebotomist will order, draw and process specimens and will be responsible for storing specimens at the correct temperature, processing and preparing for courier pick-up.
    • Practice proper patient identification, label vials with patient names and dates
    • Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status.
    • Be friendly, courteous and sympathetic when it comes to working with patients.
