    This is a salaried, exempt position with a 10-month work schedule and base standard hours of 7:30 am to 4:00 pm daily. Salary will be set annually on a performance-based schedule. Teachers will report to the head of school.

    Major Function

    Instructional position responsible for the educational leadership of scholars in a group or class in an innovative charter school. The educational leader will understand, demonstrate the use of, and implement the academy’s curriculum, scholar instruction, and assessment to maximize educational achievement for all scholars, and work collaboratively to ensure a working and learning climate for all scholars that is safe, secure, and respectful. Implementation of strategies to reach the multiple intelligences of scholars through creative lessons is required during synchronous and asynchronous work.

    Position Summary

    The High School Art Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering dynamic visual arts instruction to students in grades 9–12. This includes both traditional and digital media, with an emphasis on creative exploration and innovation. The role also incorporates the use of virtual reality (VR) to enhance spatial understanding, creative design, and immersive experiences. The teacher fosters student expression while aligning instruction with academic standards, school values, and 21st-century learning practices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Curriculum Development and Instruction:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive high school art curriculum that includes drawing, painting, digital art, and VR-integrated media.

    • Use VR tools and platforms to teach spatial design, immersive storytelling, and digital exhibition techniques.

    • Align instruction with state standards and educational best practices while encouraging creativity, innovation, and self-expression.

    • Incorporate cross-curricular themes, cultural relevance, and interdisciplinary collaboration into art projects.

    Student Support and Assessment:

    • Provide individualized support to help students develop both technical skills and creative confidence.

    • Use a variety of assessments, including digital portfolios and VR-based projects, to monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback.

    • Support students in preparing portfolios for post-secondary art programs, scholarships, or competitions.

    • Offer opportunities for students to showcase their work both in physical spaces and in virtual galleries or immersive environments.

    Classroom and Studio Environment:

    • Maintain a well-organized, inclusive, and inspiring studio and VR workspace that supports exploration and risk-taking.

    • Guide students in responsible use of art materials, digital tools, and VR equipment, ensuring safety and ethical use.

    • Foster a classroom culture of collaboration, critique, and mutual respect.

    Professional Development and Collaboration:

    • Stay current with trends in art education, immersive technologies, and VR integration through ongoing professional learning.

    • Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary projects that may include VR design, storytelling, or digital exhibitions.

    • Participate in school initiatives, committees, and events to contribute to the broader school community.

    Communication and Outreach:

    • Communicate regularly with students and families about assignments, progress, and opportunities for growth.

    • Promote student achievements through traditional and virtual exhibitions, social media, and school communications.

    • Build partnerships with museums, local artists, and tech organizations to enrich the VR and fine arts learning experience.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Digital Media, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

    • Valid state teaching certification in secondary visual arts (or ability to obtain).

    • Experience teaching high school art; experience with digital tools and VR platforms is strongly preferred.

    • Demonstrated ability to teach both traditional and emerging art forms, including VR design or immersive environments.
