Art & Literacy Facilitator
Boxwood Learning Center
Boxwood Learning Center is seeking a creative, engaging, and youth-centered Art & Literacy Facilitator to support youth ages 10–18 through afterschool and community-based programming throughout Union County. The hours are from 3:30 to 6:30 from Monday - Friday.
The facilitator will lead structured art, literacy, and enrichment activities that help youth build confidence, communication skills, creativity, teamwork, and positive social connections in a safe and restorative environment.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring youth, creating hands-on activities, and helping young people express themselves through art, reading, writing, and discussion.
Responsibilities
Facilitate daily art and literacy enrichment activities for youth
Lead hands-on projects including painting, journaling, creative writing, vision boards, poetry, crafts, and group reading activities
Encourage positive youth engagement, teamwork, and self-expression
Support restorative and social-emotional learning activities
Assist youth with reading comprehension, communication, and basic literacy support
Maintain a safe, welcoming, and organized program environment
Set up and clean up program materials and activity stations
Track attendance, participation, and basic program outcomes
Collaborate with program staff and site coordinators to support youth needs
Participate in team meetings, training, and special events
Qualifications
Experience working with youth or teens preferred
Background in art, education, literacy, mentoring, social services, or related field preferred
Strong communication and group facilitation skills
Patient, dependable, creative, and team-oriented
Ability to engage youth from diverse backgrounds
Must pass required background checks
Must have a minimum of an Associate Degree and high school diploma
Must have a reliable vehicle and ability to travel between multiple sites across Union County
Preferred Skills
Experience leading arts & crafts or creative workshops for children
Knowledge of restorative practices or trauma-informed engagement
Ability to support small group literacy activities
Experience working in schools, community programs, camps, or afterschool settings A MUST
Schedule
Primarily afternoon and evening hours
Must be available during program hours and occasional special events
Compensation
Starting at $25 per hour
